New Bike for summer

1994 ZX6E

I just picked this up for a summer ride. It needs a good tune up from sitting all winter and is having some carb issues but rides nice otherwise.

She doesn't look to happy about it ha. Nice bike though. Really clean for its age.

Re: New Bike for summer

Lol... I don't know who that is. The previous owner took the pics and sent em to me before I bought it. Thats not my house, I live in a crappy apartment building.

The bike is definately super clean though. These zx6e bikes remained almost unchanged from 94 to 2004 so replacement parts are relatively abundant. Its not to be confused with the zx6r though. The E is more touring while the R is more racing. The E is still putting down about 80 whp though so it is still a fun bike. From what I read the E's will pull about 12.4 in the quarter mile in stock form.

Nice ride. I've always wanted a bike, but I'm beginning to wonder with as many idiot drivers there are in Columbus, and how congested it is if a bike would really be all that enjoyable.

Re: New Bike for summer

Nice bike man, it's in great condition for the age. Just get it tuned up and the carbs cleaned and you should be good to ride. Also, if it were my bike, I'd inspect the sprockets for wear, and run a hand over the edges of the tire (right at the edge of the treads) to check for uneven wear. Now for the nagging... You took a MSF certified course... Right? Riiight?

Re: New Bike for summer

Yeah. Back in 1998. I still have the card though, if that matters. This is actually my third street bike but I haven't ridden in a few years, since 2001 maybe.

I was out in a parking lot yesterday practicing my slow wide and super sharp turn maneuvers and getting used to the weight of the bike again. Jabbing the front brakes and getting used to them too. Coming to a stop while rounding a turn was kinda tricky since the bike isn't running too good.

The rear sprocket look good. Since its the stock gear and has 12K on it some wear is visible but shouldn't cause any problems. I haven't taken the front cover off yet to look at it, but will do so when I adjust the position of the shifter.

The rear tire looks good and only has 500 miles on it. I'll check for the wear though. Thanks for the tip.

It was a ***** to get home since I had to ride it in stop and go traffic. It kept dying and every light and I had to stay on the throttle to keep it running. Talk about a pain in the ass. I said to hell with that and jumped on the highway and cruised about 70 the rest of the way with no issues. Rode smooth so I don't think there are any flat spots in the tires.

I'm running some seafoam through it with hopes it may straighten it out some. Its running better than when I got it so far.

Re: New Bike for summer

Looks nice for the year, Too bad old kawi's aren't the most appealing looking bikes in the world. Add a vance and hines or yoshi 2:1 exhaust and it'll be a ton better.
