sorry guys, all your theories are wrong. Any removable panel in the roof of a car (auto) can you tell i'm English yet . It's just a play on words dreamed up by a bunch of kids over here, driving around all day in the Oh so rare hot sun over here with the sunroof open (Still very few cars over here with aircon). As the night drew in, one of the kids told his pal to "close the moonroof mate, it's getting chilly in here".
Sunroof/moonroof all the same thing, a hole in the roof.

They're not. I just checked a brochure for a 2002 cougar and it lists sunroof as an option.

ah, people are crazy then... I think all of them for sale around here list a "moonroof"

you checked an 2002? ...does anyone have a 1999??

99-00 have a moonroof
01-02 have a sunroof
thats the difference between the two

no, but seriously, i thought the difference was the opening mechanism. If it had some part that would slide external the car (like a painted panel that would pop up and slide back on the roof) it was a ____roof and if it just slid between the roof and the headliner it was a ____roof. I just never knew the difference

The 99 brochure said sunroof. A sunroof slides out of the car and is not glass. A moonroof slides into the car, has a glass panel, and a sun shade.
