Re: Avert Thine Eyes (OR: Andyman S/C Build Thread)

http://easylink.playstream.com/burri...og SC Andy.rar

download this and unzip the files of the datalogs make sure you have the free software from SCT Automotive Performance Products to open it. When you view the datalogs look at the airflow readings you will notice when he pulled the piping off the sc and added a filter it was steady .7 lbs/min and when the pipe was attached the airflow was crazy which if he would have selected the pulsewidth injector you would have noticed the PCM was chasing the surges making the car irratic. Now compare the datalog with the piping installed on the SC it is like the darn compressor is surging.........hmmmmm now I talked to to andy today and he said the BOV was not working so where it is suppose to recirculate the air arond so that the compressor does not build pressure waves against the TB well now he told me he heard this high pitch noise fluttering almost like a belt slipping sound. This is the area between the SC blades and the TB building pressure to point where the air purges back through the compressor housing at idle so the air is going back in forth the pipes making the MAF surge up and down badly. I told him this may be the problem or the air is creating to much turblance next to the MAF. Now Andy told me the car ran smooth but lean when he added just the filter and is hows big time why on the datalogs.

Also I sent him stock MAF file not touched only the fuel injectors parameters for the 38# injectors. He needs to just take out the BOV and let the air circulate and redo the datalogs and if that doesn't work move the MAF. I am not a big fan of the pipe size differences because this channels the air but adding the screen should have helped some but I could see it. His stock MAF sured badly too so the MAFs are good and I know they were because the short term fuel trim were only off 8% off of 1.00 which under 5% is real good and over 25% throws a code.

Remember we can't change the voltage on the MAFs all we can do is tell it how much fuel to add or take out (scaling) but when you get raw data that is not smooth the car will not be smoothed because the PCM has values set to each .1 lbs/min or .1 volts the MAF is not lieing about what it sees especaily when you verified the problem goes away when you change something (piping) or Pressure waves bouncing off the closed TB

Re: Avert Thine Eyes (OR: Andyman S/C Build Thread)

Joey, I appreciate you taking a good hard look at the logs. I'm thinking we need to reduce the number of variables in play here so that we can get the 3.0 running smoothly again. First, we disconnect the FMIC piping from the MAF and connect a filter directly to the MAF. Second, we remove the belt from the supercharger pulley so that the engine is not having to spin that thing at idle. That should leave us with just the MAF, injectors, and upgraded fuel pump as the only changes made to the system since the time Andy arrived at the garage. Once you see "normal" operation there, we can then add back the FMIC and then the supercharger until we are good to go.

i hope everything turns out good. i cant wait to see some numbers!!! also if you (gamiller) or danG could offer insight on pros and cons, a kind of comparison between a turbo'd 3L and a supercharged 3L. i cant make up my mind about what type of boost i want to go with. ground clearence is one thing im worried about so im kinda leaning to supercharged. thanks

has anyone put a cold air extension onto a vortech supercharger? could that even be done?

it could be done, but there is really no point because supercharger head unit creates heat. and that is why andyman is using a front mount on his setup.

the point would not be to reduce air temps, the point would be to relocate the MAF before the supercharger.

once Andy is running well we can go head-to-head. meanwhile i can only discuss installation issues and maintenance issues and design improvements.
