Re: Evo 9 Intercooler fitment?

do you have a turbo, or are you just trying to do something dumb like mounting something just for looks.

only way you will know is if you take measurements. no one on here has even attempted something like this.

Re: Evo 9 Intercooler fitment?

I suspect you will have to cut up the bumper (not the cover, the actual bumper) which IMO is not a good idea for safety reasons.

Re: Evo 9 Intercooler fitment?

The actual bumper is plastic and servers only to support the bumper cover and provide marginal "buffer" in a slow (5-10 MPH) front end collision. It provides no safety benefit from what I can tell. Here is a good picture showing what I mean ... hit anything above 10 MPH and it will break into pieces ... that being said, I decided it was worth cutting into ... that determination needs to be made by the individual make the modifications.

Re: Evo 9 Intercooler fitment?

although keep in mind of the legal ramifications on hacking up your 5mph bumper. if you are in an accident they may decline your claim because you made modifications to your car that resulted in additional damage to your car.

also may potentially be an issue depending what type of vehicle inspection your state requires.

Re: Evo 9 Intercooler fitment?

If my intercooler's core width was 1" less, I wouldn't have had to touch the bumper support to get it to fit. However, due to it's width and the resulting end tank width (even though it tapers), I had to trim the back of the bumper support just to get it to fit. The only reason I hacked it away as much as I did was to see ho much would have to be removed in order to perperly duct the intercooler. That being said, like I stated, it's up the individual to weigh the facts and make that determination for themselves.
