Header Wrap

Does it really matter if I buy the eBay header wrap, as long as its 100% fiberglass?

How long would I need to cover both headers, y-pipe and up-pipe?

Should I use 1/8" thick or 1/16" thick wrap.

Anything else I need to know?

Re: Header Wrap

Honestly? Spring for ceremic (Jet Hot) coating. I originally had the turbo wrapped with DEI from Summit (took three 50' rolls! ), but the silicone spray they give you to seal the wrap with wouldn't ever stop "curing" (i.e. burning in, all it would do is smoke and stink...)

There's a place called American Stripping Co. (not kidding) that does a Jet-Hot-like coating, and is very reasonable. I see no reason you Kanucks wouldn't have something similar!

Re: Header Wrap

The entire hot side is already coated

I'm doing this based on other research that shows improved turbo spool up times with coated headers being wrapped as well.

Re: Header Wrap

What's the piping made of? Some piping likes to crack when coated and wrapped.

Heck... some piping likes to just crack in general, but the wrap speeds up that process significantly.

About company for the wrap... I've only used the Thermotec/DEI stuff.

Re: Header Wrap

so far header wrap has not shown me anything spectacular or anything to prove it better than a coating and I have seen quite a few cars with wrap. Not impressed. Get them thermal coated and call it a day.

Re: Header Wrap

Get them coated I have the header wrap also and it still smokes occasionally when it gets wet or if you ever get oil on them.
