Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L
Lots of progress today. I replaced both coolant sensors while the entire turbo system was out of the car. I found a great spot for the air/oil seperator a few nights back ... I only had to adjust the orientation of the tubes to avoid the down pipe. Here is the placement from a few nights back:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now for todays progress. I basically cleaned all the oil out of everything and put it all back together and routing the air/oil seperator lines into the intake pre-turbo. If this works, well, I will not bother with the slash-cut tube approach. I got a late start on the day since it rained all morning. I didn't get started till 5 PM and wrapped it up around 8:45 PM. Unfortunately, the battery in the car is stone cold dead and I needed to use jumper cables to get the car started. I will be charging it all night tonight. Tomorrow I will begin working on the ducting for the intercooler and radiator to solve the cooling issue as I think this will solve the oiling issue ... I will find out tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L
Lotsa good pics there, thanks! You've got very clean routing!
![]() Looks to me like you've got the vacuum booster, the PCV valve, and the valve cover breather all going to the catch can, which in turn is routed to the intake just ahead of the turbo. I hope that works for you, but recall that air flows into the valve cover but out of the PCV valve. What happens when both are connected to the catch can? I don't think it's a major issue, but here's an expert opinion: Quote:

Good catch Gary ... after looking at my notes, I just realized that I do have it plumbed incorrectly ... corrections coming!

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L
Well, the car ran like a champ last night. I ran the car for a good hour and tried to heat soak it by doing multiple short boost runs in a row and then doing the speed limit. After one full hour, no sign of overheating. In fact, I suspect that the car never had a cooling problem and that the sensor's where damaged during the next to last dyno run. After that point, they where operating out of range and couldn't send a proper signal to the ecu or the gauge cluster. Replacing both sensors in the crossover tube seems to have solved the problem. However, I will be designing a ducting solution anyways as the true test will be tomorrow as the temps will be in the mid to high 90's nearly all day long. After 3:30, I plan on getting the car on the road for extensive heat testing.
Concerning the oiling issue solution, I basically followed the stock setup, but plumbed in BOTH air/oil seperators I have running one for the PCV and one for the Valce Cover Breathers (VCB). I tried the VCB's venting to atmosphere through small cone filters and it still spewed quite a bit of oil. So, I simply plumbed the VCB's the same way I did the PCV with the only problem being the air/oil seperator placement. I need to take pictures, but the system is perfectly balanced up front with the VCB's routing to the passenger's side of the car in the exact same possition as the PCV seperator. I'll try to get video of the guages only for some quick acceleration runs.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L
which catch cans are you using anyway? are those the corvette ones you posted earlier? they do look nice.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L
You are correct sir ... pictures and video coming tonight possibly, but definitely by weekend's end. The Catch Cans are from here:
http://www.customcorvetteaccessories...lcatchcan.html They are fully machined from aluminum and are top quailty units and do a spectacular job. Absolutely no oil out of the BOV since plumbing them in.
