Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

Well, that was intersting! I went out to the car and adjusted the low speed fan to come on at 190 and the high speed to come on at 210. I proceed to go out to lunch and hammer on the car a little after letting it idle for 5+ minutes to build engine heat. I put the speedo info center in diagnostics mode and displayed the temp. It climbed all the way to 232, but the needle stayed in the middle ... I think I have a fried coolant temp sensor. The cross-over tube I have has 2 sensors ... one to the ECU and one to the gauge ... guess I fried the gauge sensor somehow ... resistor perhaps? Either that or the cluster is going defective on that gauge

Anyways, I put in one quart of oil and replaced the radiator cap. After replacing the cap, I couldn't get it over 225, so maybe that was a small part of the problem. When I pull the turbo, the thermostat will be replaced with a new unit (I have one at the house).

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

I would pull the T-stat completely out and see how it does. Sounds like there is a problem.

Have you check out the waterpump?

An SVT Radiator may help too. I'm not sure if you would have the room there or not.

I was having temp problems with my 3L and ended up just leaving the T-stat out. I tried a lower temp one and it didn't help. My fans come on early and it didn't help. I tried several new ones and it just got hot. It would run hotter than it should with it in. It sucks in the winter, but oh well.

Do you still have that giant hole in your front fender?

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

I have an SVT radiator already. I need to get the ducting on the intercooler so the air won't slip past it. I think this along with the ducts behind the grill will work.

I now have the proper pins, but still nothing in the XCal2. So, that brings me to the point of which end does this diagram serve ... female or male? I have my MALE end configured this way, but if the diagram is the FEMALE end, I have it mirrored and will need to rewire my setup.
Trevor, how did this end up? I can't read the voltage on the XCal. I swear I followed the instructions to a T. Continuity testing identified which colored wire was connected to which pin. The voltage coming off the signal wire was 2.2V. But when I plugged the cable into the XCal, I GOT @#$%^ BROWN SMOKE!

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

I gave up ... I will address this over the winter I guess

The only thing I have left to try is to mirror image the diagram and assume that the diagram is the female end, not the male end. With it being the male end, I had it wired perfectly, and confirmed a varying signal with a multi-meter ... plug it in and it doesn't read anything on the XCal2.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

I'm contacting the vendor tomorrow. I cannot afford another mishap. Hopefully the XCal still functions fully.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

I mentioned before that the diagram is the one on the xcal2 not the wire so you have to mirror image the cord on the female side. I ran into the same problem with mine when I first received it because whoever is making the diagrams was not very imformitive but call xcal2 support and double check yourself . Joey

Re: Project: Mavro Gato - 99 Turbo'd 3L

This is VERY easy to understand if people would pull their heads out of their butt and know what "male end" and "female end" refers to:

Male End = side with exposed pins
Female End = side with recessed holes to accept the exposed pins

THINK ABOUT IT! This isn't rocket science. Last I checked, my male end had an exposed pin that fit into my wife's recessed holes

Thanks for clarification Joey! If that is the case, the diagram is of the female end, not the male end.
