Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)
Not really ... currently trying to find the motivation to clean out the garage so I can back the car in to do some welding. The relocated battery needs to be secured in place, so I plan on welding in some slotted "L" channel and then securing it to that. I'm not a big fan of the threaded rod and drilling holes. Hopefully I can find the time this weekend to do that and to find/fix the leak in the trunk. When it rains, the spare wheel well fills with water. I have determined where it's entering the trunk area, but can't find where it's coming from. Considering that's where I have the battery, it's a rather important fix since water and electricy are never a good mix
I have the spare tire removed, battery as close to the center of the car as possible against the back stop of the spare tire well, if that helps you visualize. Once I fix the leak and weld in the battery brackets, I will take some pictures.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)
Well, I found some time this weekend to fabricate a battery tray. The metal in the spare tire well is EXTREMELY thin. I burnt through on 3 occasions and had to tack the holes shut. So, rather than try to run a bead, I had to tack and move, tack and move, etc. I couldn't get a good picture of it, but behind the tray, where it slopes up, I was able to run a 1 inch bead from each corner inward. It's very sturdy and not going anywhere

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)
The main reason for securing the battery was to finally test the suspension ... Koni + Ground Control + brand new tires = AWESOME!
Now, I just need to get some datalogs for Tom to finish the NA tune and while I'm waiting on the tune, I will start to finish fabricating the turbo kit.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)
Well, after many attempts to salvage the AC system, it simply isn't working. So, out it comes this weekend. It will allow for much more room for the turbo kit, but unfortunately, makes the car's buying audience shrink

A/C? who needs stink'n A/C!
Yanked it today ... pretty easy!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You have to disconnect the brake line since it actually bends around the intermediate A/C dryer line. Because of this, you will need to bleed the brakes as well. There is also a riveted "blocking" plate that needs to be removed from the fender well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Future home of my FMIC ... PLENTY of space now without the condenser in the way! ![]()
