Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Some goodies arrived today for the Cougar:

Precision Turbo T3/T4 SC-61 ... good for 630hp & makes one hell of a hand warmer

.60 A/R compressor ratio

.63 A/R exhaust ratio

4 bolt flange with 2.5" to 3" expansion for the downpipe

Wideband O2 for accurate Air/Fuel reading. Best part is that it has an output for datalogging

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

why such a large turbo? 630 seems quite excessive... i know its still a t3/t4 in size but 630 seems quite high

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

630 is MAX and near 30psi ... it should make a nice healthy 500+ at 15-18psi.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Quick question...

Why the .63 turbine A/R?? Your 3L will spool that really quickly... The .82 A/R is probably a better option in my eyes... give you stronger middle range and upper range power...

Also... What's that compressor wheel rated at?? That looks like a GT30 compressor housing (or a copy at least)...

What made you select that turbo? Or is that just the test turbo? I can't see that being the most optimal turbo for the set-up...

Just wondering...

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

The turbo is spec'd just like a GT35R, only without the Ball Bearing center cartridge. Based on it's flow, it will be optimal for what I have in mind (4K spool up).

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Gotcha...

I still thought the GT35R used a "larger" compressor housing... a .70 compressor AR... and comes with a 75lb/min compressor wheel and 4" inlet. Also the Turbine housing I thought was only available with a .82 or 1.06 A/r... however I do believe the smaller .63 would fit. But that's the Garrett spec for the real GT35r

Still looks more like a GT30r to me... but physical appearance on a turbo means nothing... And I don't know anything about precision turbos, except they are very inexensive... which is definitely a good thing.

Either way it should still be darn fun...

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Well, I misspoke about the spec. The turbo as a whole isn't speced exactly like a GT35R, it uses the same compressor housing as the GT35R (A GT40 housing), with one small exception ... the GT35R uses a .70 A/R compressor housing and the SC-61 uses a .60 A/R housing. The SC-61 is speced more similar to the T3/GT40 "Blowzilla" from what I can see based on it's components. Either way, MORE than enough power will make it's way to the ground! Here is a quote from Honda-Tech on the Precision Turbo SC-61:
Quote:
The SC61 uses the GT40 family 56 trim compressor wheel. IT IS NOT A GT35 FAMILY WHEEL!

That first map the shodan posted is NOT the right map... That is the map for a smaller GT35 family wheel.

The only garrett turbo the 56 trim GT40 wheel is found in is the GT35R.. the reason the map is set up around a .70ar is because the GT35R uses a .70A/R housing..

The Strait GT40R by garrett uses a different compressor wheel then the GT35R, it uses a different GT40 family wheel, the 52 trim w/ 88mm exducer..

I guess if you think about it there is no dead on map for a standard SC61. (since the compressor map for the wheel it uses is set up for the .70ar housing) But still, your best bet is to go by the .70ar map, compressor maps don't tell the whole story anyways.. It will get you close enough.

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Well, the car is running again!

It wasn't the O2 sensor wires ... although they looked exposed, they where fine, but charred a little bit. However, the speedo sensor is toast. I simply disconnected the sensor from the harness, replaced the #9 fuse and started the car. I then removed the stock Y-Pipe and fitted the MSDS Y-Pipe after transferring the catalytic converter. The car runs like a top now. I will get some data logs for Tom tomorrow. Now I have to wait for the speedo sensor to arrive so I can replace the fried one. I should have taken pictures, but when I removed it from the car, 2 of the 3 wires where melted together
