Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Well, I picked up two more cans of this gloss black engine enamel on my way to work this morning ... I had to return the primer since I wasn't sure how the 500 degree enamel would interact with the primer, I didn't use it. I'm also not sure how it will act with the clear coat, so I'm going to forgo that step for the time being. The idea is to let the engine heat "bake" the enamel for a few days/weeks, then I might pull it and clear coat it if needed. However, there is definitely a high gloss to the paint and I'm not sure if it needs a clear coat or it the type of paint that it is will react weird with a clear coat on it (yellow the clear coat prematurely).

Put the intake manifold in the oven at 200* for a 8 hours... the paint will be very well baked in.

HOWEVER you should clear coat before you bake in paint, or the clear won't adhere properly...

Re: Project: Mavro Gato (56K ... Get a cup of coffee)

Well according to the maker of the paint ... Dupli-Color, I have an "application window" of 1 hour. If I must re-coat after this 1 hour window, they recommend you wait a full 7 days. Will this "bake in" method of 8 hrs @ 200 degrees circumvent this window? I have to admit, it does look really good except for a few very small areas that can be worked out later. So, right now, I plan on installing it and calling it a day. A few weeks from now during/after brake in, I will sand down the problem areas and re-coat as it will be past the 7 day period they specify (unless the bake in method circumvents the waiting period).

This is due to the fact that it's an enamel and if you re-coat outside this 1 hour window of application, the paint will tend to "wrinkle".

Yes they are ... 16ga 304 SS. I then painted them and wrapped them myself.

The more I look at it, the more I think I will. Although it's time consuming and is setting me back from developing the turbo kit, these are things that are extremely difficult and more time consuming to remove once in the car and attend to later.

You custom made those headers? They look just like MSDS or WR headers. Is there any difference?

The bends leading to the collector on the front header look different than the msds setup
