Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
I read that, yes. But im not sure if from experience with the kit being on his car if hes going to just go with what vortech says or if he is going to draw his own conclusions for our application. When he said "after 7 psi" I was just curious on what levels he meant regarding "after."

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
the higher the psi, the higher the heat. Most supercharger kits aren't intercooled. I would just go along with the vortech recomendations and dont sacrifice the velocity of the air with an intercooler unless there is significant heat loss. Lower psi with intercooler is just going to cost you velocity and psi drop. After 7 psi you should consider one as they say. I'd run one after that.

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
Just because you have an intercooler doesn't make the kit "better". At first I thought it was odd Vortech didn't run an intercooler on there stock Cougar kit. A supercharger will not get as hot as a turbo. At 6psi this headunit is not pumping out tons of heat and Vortech does not recommend an intercooler. It's a complete waste at 6psi. I was watching my intake sensor the entire time throughout 6-7 back to back runs and the temps never went above 80 degrees (no intercooler on my car obviously). Of course it was about 40-50 outside but I don't think that its much higher than a stock car would show. I've heard you see about 2psi drop across an intercooler but I'm sure that depends on the intercooler. So this is from my testing and info directly from Vortech. As far as the exact cutoff PSI for when to use an intercooler I'm going with what Vortech says but I'm sure we will have temp data when we get parts for the upgraded kit. This base kit will be a 6psi kit and we will come out with an upgraded kit from there which will have an intercooler.

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
Hell that long tube going through the front functions as a small but efficient intercooler anyway

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
How much HP is expected with the Non IC 7 psi SC on the 2.5l? Also, what about 1/4 mile times?

you could probably find some heat sinks that you could attach to the piping to help draw some of the heat off it as well

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
I wondering if there's enough room to run the intake piping on the back of the engine in the space of the strut tower? Running the piping through the fender just lowers velocity because it has to travel more.

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup
Hey Chris..Does that Vortec headunit come with a CARB number?? IIRC their orignal kit was CARB legal. But I don't if that was based on the kit itself or the S/C. If thats the case, there'd be no need for removal for inspections.
