Re: Interest in Supercharger setup

Sounds goood Jason.

I dropped the car off yesterday to have the first set of brackets finished up. I was able to figure out a way around the timing cover issues I was having with the new timing covers. Turns out I can run a slightly smaller pulley on the engine side and clear the tensioner that was in the way so things should be good. I'll run a slightly smaller pulley on the supercharger to make up for it. I was told the brackets should be done soon (few days) so I'll let you know as soon as it's finished up and get a working unit on my car.

Re: Interest in Supercharger setup

the big question is, will this kit cost less than burrita's stage 1 kit? (~2900, ~2650 if you have headers to give him for your mockup as per an email I sent)

You shouldn't need to upgrade compressor on this kit. The compressor is more than large enough to support the needs of our engines and then some (800CFM maximum). Changing pulleys is all that will be needed for more hp.

I have been able to cut down on costs quite a bit but I think it will be tough to keep the kit in Burritas price range. A huge plus for this kit is that it will work with an ATX. I found a small mushroom filter and a aftermarket coolant tank that are nice quality, fairly inexpensive, and fit perfectly. You will still have to relocate your battery as you would in the turbo kit. Other than some cutting into the fender for piping and modifying an engine mount bracket the install should be much easier for this kit.

Another thing to keep in mind is that currently the 01-02 timing covers will not work with this kit. The tensioner is too bulky and directly in the way of the belt routing on the newer covers. I ended up having to swap to an older style (99-00) timing cover last night. It's a pain but can be done in a few hours. Think I could sell the 2001-2002 Cougar kit with an older timing cover?

I was hoping to have it finished up last night but the oil lines that came with the kit were too short. I'll have to find the correct size online today and get them here ASAP.

I'll give another update with some nice pictures Thursday night or Friday. I doubt I'll have the oil lines by then but the pictures will show you how it's all working out.

Thanks,
Chris
