Watkins Glen Opening Day 2012 - April 21 & 22

I posted this over on CEG but I know some are members here but not over there so here it is...

For those that didn't see the post last year, every spring WGI opens up the track to the public where they let you run 3 laps for $25 and usually set it up so you can do 3 sets of 3 laps for $50. Last year there was a 10-car minimum to run as a 'club' and unfortunately due to scheduling and the weather we didn't quite meet that. If you are interested in running one day or another please post here. I know it is early but if we get enough we can all run as a group which is very nice.

Technically the laps are paced at 55mph but every year I have gone it's been a lot faster. Last spring with 3 people in the SVT I was doing 105mph on the back straight before standing on the brakes.

I'm sure anyone that's gone can attest that it's a blast!

This is tempting, especially since I wanted to go last year and I couldn't.

I'd be tempted to see how my Fusion would do, lol.

And just a side bar: The Shelby American Automobile Club is having their national convention at the Glen this year!
It's a phenomenal event for anyone that hasn't been before.
My dad is bringing his Parnelli Jones Saleen down for the open track races.

I believe it's the first week in June, but I'll have to double check.

So it looks like we are tentatively planning for Sunday the 22nd. That seemed to work best for those on CEG that were interested in coming and should be the least busy of the two days.
