I recently purchased a SVT lite package from Letsride and was wondering what is the best stuff to clean the UIM with. I have read in a thread to use Brakleen but does it only come in aerosal form? Or is there a liquid cleaner that works too?
Thanks

any kind of brake cleaner or carb cleaner will work great, but they only come in spray form.
Brakleen (green cans) worked for me.
Ive heard that you can let the UIM soak in simple green concentrate overnight, is this a good method?
I used the brakleen and simple green combo just to be safe. First used the Brakleeen, waited till the next day and plunged it into the simple green solution for two days. I am overly cautious though. The Brakleen by itself should be sufficiant. Depending on the amount you buy though it can be expensive. CRC-05088 15 oz can is roughly 3 bucks. CRC-05085 1 gallon is like 75 bucks.

You can EASILY go through 8-10 cans of the stuff...I thought I was okay with 3 and ended up buying 6 moreThis was for the LIM and UIM though.
Yikes, I only needed a little more than 2 cans. Mine was good as new after about 2 cans, but I wanted to be sure so I used more to make sure the spray coming out was clean and clear.
Simple green is nowhere near as strong as brake cleaner or carb cleaner... Brand doesn't matter (ie Brakleen vs. Generic), they are just much much stronger solvents than and type of normal cleaning solution. If you really don't want to use a spay, buy lots of simple green, greased lightning, or whatever your favorite heavy duty cleaner/degreaser is and soak the manifold in it for a few days... You still won't get the same results, and you'll have more scrubbing to do.
before I polished mine, I took it to Napa to be cleaned (essentially hot tanked, but a different process is used for aluminum and can't recall the phrase) and was around $50. came back spotless inside and out. totally worth the cost vs spending the time/money/effort to do it by hand and ended up with a cleaner part in the end.
