do you polish and then apply lacquer?
here you go (avatar). Just a wipe over with a wet cloth...no cleaning agent. It's not hard but practice and patience will improve the results. I have a spare wheel to work on. This means i can take my time and not be rushing around trying to get finished to a deadline. Also, allow as much time as possible for the lacquer to harden. It may appear hard on the surface..but it takes weeks to cure properly. A warm cupboard is a good place to store it....G.

Re: Mother's Mag and Alum. okay to use? or Armor All

SO
what I just ended up buying after a trip to partsource and reading the labels there

... Blue Magic Liquid Metal Polish
(my bottle looks different though)

it says its safe and non-abrasive.
and on the back it lists: - car and truck wheels - factory coated wheels .... etc ... - leaves protective coating

since it lists factory coated wheels, i am guessing it will be okay . . ?

(I'm wondering, should i even bother with the polish, or should I just take it back and get a nice wax, and just wax the rims after I have them cleaned?)

for anyone wanting to polish bare aluminum, the mothers works really well just using it by hand and would assume even better with a power polisher

Not trying to be contrary... just trying to clarify a misunderstanding that could cause unnecessary damage to a set of wheels...

Simply put, the Meguiar's is formulated differently and thus the label's not applicable to another maker's product.

The Mothers is a true metal polish. On the label that is pictured (which is an old label) says "perfect for all metals" (not "perfect for all finishes") on the front.

And unless it's a really, really old label (and by the shape of the lid it looks like it could be), it'll say something to the effect of "not recommended for gold plating, chrome, anodized, painted or coated metals" -- at least that's what the newer labels say. Same formula, but updated label.

Check a new label at Canadian Tire or Acklands-Grainger or Parts Source for clarification on the label, or you can visit the Mothers tech support forum at waxforum.com.
