Z30-what?

So my brothers 300ZX has been down since October, and should be almost ready to go again... we swapped it from auto to manual, and dropped in a nice new engine. Everything looks great, and we've been over it again and again, but we still have a problem. It won't start. It tries to crank, and we have fuel, air, and sparks in the engine, so we've been spending the last week and a half troubleshooting the damn thing. We've asked a bunch of mechanics about it, and get no good answers. We've even had people look at it, still to no avail. The plus side of this is that we've fixed just about everything that might have been problematic later, but later doesn't matter right now. A career mechanic/auto tech teacher is coming over Sunday to check things out, and if that doesn't help we might have to haul the car to a nissan tech we know. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be much appreciated.

The mechanic was not able to come on sunday, which sucks, but I was able to get it to fire with starting fluid in the manifold, so I'm pretty sure my injectors are bad, I am probably going to take them off again and bring them into the shop so the teacher can take a look at them. Also, I'm going to see what it would take to make my old injectors fit, it might be as simple as swapping over the manifold from my old engine, I'll keep you posted.

Ok, so it looks like my best bet is to take my manifold off of the old engine and put in on the new one, so that I will be able to fit the side feed injectors. If all goes well I'll have them installed before the week is out.

Well, I got the manifold off of the old engine today, and I'm going to sandblast it tomorrow and install it, as well as test both sets of injectors to see if the set on the engine now is indeed clogged, and to test my other set to see if they squirt correctly, if all goes as planned I should have it running by sunday. On a good note, I know that the engine will run well once we get fuel into it, I sprayed some starter fluid into the manifold and had my friend crank the engine while I sprayed the fluid into the intake tube, the engine started and ran fine, well, until I stopped spraying the fluid, but there were no irregular sounds and no fluid leaks.

Good! Will you be able to modify one manifold to use the older style injectors and fuel rail? (So that you can gut one of them) Call me later when you know if the injectors spray or not- if you find that the old ones do, please, go ahead and install them!

well, I got it running today! It ran for a couple of minutes until two problems became apparent, the injector to cylinder three is leaking serious amounts of fuel, and essentially making thet cylinder worthless, also the coolant tube on the back of the lower manifold needs a new gasket, other than that there are a few rogue vac tubes and a tube that needs to hold vac to let the engine start, but has nothing to hook up to, I won't be able to work much on it until exams are over, so I will take off the upper manifold on like friday or saturday and fix the leak and replace the gasket, other than those problems it ran well, about as good as a car can on 5 cylinders, I am hoping to drop it by sunday and take it for a spin. I'll keep yall updated, I can't wait to be running with Paul's cougar again!

Yea, so I drove it a couple of times, just down the street and back, and the coolant light was on, I noticed that I had hardly any coolant in the car, no problem, I filled it up and drove it again, then I coolant hose burst and started steaming everywhare, the only thing was that the coolant coming out of the hose was brown. I had filled it with green coolant 5 minutes before, so I took off the fill cap and all I could see was a pudding like substance, anyway, I have a blown head gasket, so I'll be replacing my head gaskets this weekend.
