radio display...

i have a 99 cougar with the factory 6-disc changer. the display on the faceplate, the one that tells you what station you have it on and stuff like that has quit working. well, it has not quit working all-together, but it only works sometimes and when it does work it looks really faded. are there any grounds or something loose that could cause this? or is it finally time to get an aftermarket cd player...cause i really like my 6-disc changer but hey...ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Aaron

RE:radio display...

the little detachable piece is all the way clipped in. BTW the radio still works whether i can see the numbers or not...it works 24/7 its just sometimes the numbers fade away and all i see is the green backlight!

RE:radio display...

alright...i guess it "fixed" itself again! it has worked perfectly for 3 days straight.

anyone have any idea why it would do this every 4-5 months and then not do it again for another 4-5 months?

RE: radio display...

The connection of the screen to the main board is a pretty simple one.. it may be
loose or aging... I can't remember exactly, but I took my stereo apart at one point in time.

RE: radio display...

i wouldn't doubt it if it was a very common problem. mine has done the exact same thing with 2 different tape players (both stock). i wrote about this some months ago and some other people responded saying they had the exact same problem too.
