    Head Unit Power/Ground

I am trying to install my aftermarket headunit, now I've already got all the how to's and bought everything I need.
I am removing the stock 6 disk in dash unit and there are 2 plugs, I have supposedly the right adapter, it has one connector, it fits in the black harness perfectly. I don't think I have the premium system as there is no separate amp.
The other factory plug has only 1 wire leading to it. (is this for the CD changer?) When I connect everything I have no power...
I think it might just be that I need to run a ground wire from the aftermarket unit but I wanted to check first as I am a little afraid of shorting something out.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

The single wire harness is for the AVC control, and you don't need it for any aftermarket install. Best thing you can do is go to your local Circuit City / Best Buy and pick up the snap in harnesses to plug in your aftermarket unit directly to the stock harness with no cutting.

How about the fuses in the fusebox? Isn't there one for the power to the headunit?

The fuses in the fusebox are fine if the factory radio works fine. If you don't have the black ground wire from the radio hooked up to anything, then that will cause it not to power up. The should be another black wire in the harness you bought to hook it up though. Also, if you plug in the antenna, that usually works to ground the radio too. If you have both the radio's ground wire connected and the antenna plugged in, but you're still not getting any power, then the problem is either the radio is bad, or the harness isn't making a connection. Check the little metal prongs inside the harness and make sure that they're all straight and that none of them (especially the red, yellow, and black ones) are bent or sticking up.

    You were right CatMan
turns out the yellow wire pin on the harness I got at Circuit City wasn't in all the way,I pushed it into place and everything worked fine.
I'm all set now thanks so much to all for the input...
