I've narrowed it down to two, I'll link from crutchfields site b/c they have the most info but I can get much better prices from autotoys.com, just no direct links.

This JVC for @175 shipped or..

This Pioneer

That is about all I can afford for a long time, This will be replacing an old Eclipse 5331 that still plays hard but doesnt have MP3 and CD's only eject about 1/2 inch now. It will be powering 2 yellow pioneer 6x8's up front and 2 pioneer 3 ways in back, with a factory amp in between helping out a bit.

I have the first JVC MP3 unit, the KD-SH99, and I love it!! It plays much better than some of the other units on the market at the time. The file check time is very quick and I like the fact that you can automatically choose folders. (for ex. I burn the cd with the folders 01, 02, 03... and then I can select the folder using the preset buttons). I do not believe the pioneer has this option. You really don't want to have to worry about pressing too many buttons while you're driving. Also, this thing does not skip!!

Good luck!

I have the premier 730 - basically the same unit as the pioneer 7400, just a model older, and kinda like the bigger brother. However, that 7400 does play MP3's, and that's a new option this year. I love my premier, and it's been the best headunit I've ever owned as far as features, and consistency. One thing about the 7400 you may want to think about is that it only has 2.2volt preamp outputs. If you're not building a big system, then you will probably be fine. In all though, I think pioneer makes a really good product, and it'll last a long time...

I'm not building a system in the ranger, not enough room. In my next car I'll probably put a solobaric 10 or 12 in it, just about 300 watts, not much.
