    Subwoofer surround repair(?)

Has anyone ever repaired a subwoofer surround? I know there's some replacement kits, but if they don't work, I won't bother. It's a JL 10w3D4.

is the surround actually punctured or is it just separated from the basket? You can use a good 2 part epoxy to re-glue the surround to the basket.

It's split from the cone and then is torn a little ways from the lip that connects to it. It's not like a gash or a hole anywhere, It could match up. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow; the one I posted wasn't mine, it was just to show what my sub looks like.

I would contact JL then and see if they can get you another surround all together. If not you could try to find a similar material and glue it where the tear is on the back side. I have heard of people using clear nail polish because it is flexible....I have never seen proof of this however.

I would like to try some kind of adhesive, but I'm worried that if it doesn't work, it'll be hard to remove if I decide to replace the entire surround. Either way I go seems like a catch 22.

I've repaired quite a few subs, and many fail again due to the stress the surround is put through. If it were mine, I'd take it to JL and have them repair it, although, from Tallahassee to miramar fl is quite a ride...

how old is it? if its under 2 years old, its still under warranty as long as it was purchased from an authorized dealer... take it to them, you pay shipping and JL will repair it no charge... just a few thoughts

very true, a repaired surround is never quite the same. I have re-glued the surround of a type R 3 times.

for the cost of JL stuff you should defiantly take advantage of the warranty if possible.

They're at least 5 years old. I'm just going to replace them. I can't afford more JL's right now, so I ordered some Infinity 1052w's. Crutchfield had them on sale for $75 plus shipping. They had excellent reviews, so I figured I'd give them a shot.
