Re: Subs where rear seats are...
I got a lot done today after work. I think I should be able to finish everything up tomor...errr....i guess i should say today (Monday), since it's after midnight. I am just waiting for my sound dampering/deadening material to get delivered, should be here wednesday or so. It's called FatMat. I'll keep everyone updated.

Re: Subs where rear seats are...
She's all done! Rear seat delete + 2 12" pioneer subwoofers + FatMat sound deadening material + cupholder.
Now I will be selling my 2 custom fiberglass boxes that i was using. They are made for 12" subs, and they fit perfectly back into the little indents in the trunk on each side. They are super strong and SOUND AMAZING! But I don't feel like buying a 4 channel amp and two more subs to keep using the fiberglass boxes. So, pm me if you are interested. So anyway...on to the pics of the rear seat delete + subs + cupholder. First pics are of the coug with the rear seats removed, but the center seat belt latches are still on in the pics, yes, i did remove that after the pics. Then I made a cardboard template of the approximate size and shape of what my MDF board would have to be. I found an old piece of plywood about the right size that i could use as a test piece. So I cut the shape out on the plywood. The plywood sat dang near level on it's own. It touched on the left and right side of the car (there are metal brackets that it rests on which your rear speaker panels screw down to) so I just made a piece that fits under the front nicely to keep it level. Then I drilled a quick hole about where I thought the center of the sub would be, looked through the hole to figure out exactly where the center really was, then drew out the circles for the subs. Then cut the holes for the subs and I dropped one in to test the fit. I did just barely hit the bottom of the bucket seat metal, so I decided to make a spacer out of mdf later on to make the subs sit higher. Then I made a cardboard template for a center divider for the sub compartments. I finished perfecting my plywood template and traced it out onto 3/4" MDF. Cut out my large piece, then cut the hole for my cupholder, cut the sub holes, then the center divider. There was A LOT of measuring and test fitting involved between these steps just to make sure everything came together nicely. I used Loctite PowerGrab to secure everything, then after it cured I drilled small holes and put in some small screws. Then I put in my cupholder (it is large to hold the huge drinks at McDonalds or gas stations, and i put in three rubber washers to take up the extra space in case you put a small can or drink in it). And I made the subwoofer spacer rings. Mounted them. I carpeted the whole thing black to match the theme in my car (not to match the trunk gray). Then I put down sound deadening material called FatMat. I did two layers of the stuff and did behind the panels and some in the trunk. I also used a bunch of foam insulation to take up some spaces behind the panels and installed some around the outer edge of my board. I also sealed up a few things with some silicone. Mounted the whole thing, ran my wiring, screwed the subs in after pre-drilling small holes. Screwed down the whole thing into the metal brackets on the side, and I was done. I cranked it up and it actually sounds really good. It is a little less space than recommended though. I thought about maybe using some polyfill, but I haven't yet. Sounds pretty good and I'm happy with the results. Just thought I'd share. Oh and the cupholder works well too.

Re: Subs where rear seats are...
Okay....well it's not letting me post pics. It keep saying "could not be processed because a security token was missing". Weird. I guess I will post pics later.

Re: Subs where rear seats are...
It actually sounds decent now. Before I put the FatMat sound control stuff in, it sounded way too much like an open bandpass type box...i think i had a little distortion or something too. But now that I got everything sealed up and installed the FatMat, it sounds MUUUUCH better. Not QUITE as good as the fiberglasses boxes...but still good. I'm pleased.
![]() And the color of the black carpet does NOT clash as much as it looks in the pictures. Some of the pics were taken at night, and it seems to look a lot worse in the pics. But it goes pretty well with the interior of the car.

The amp is mounted up under the cargo cover.
