Adding subwoofer to stock HU

Hey guys,
I want to add a subwoofer I have to the stock HU on the cougar. How do I do this? I don't want to upgrade HU's due to having the 6 cd changer.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Adding subwoofer to stock HU

You'll need a LOC(Line Out Converter) and your normal amplifier wiring kit.

The LOC converts your stock speaker wires into low level inputs.(RCA)

Re: Adding subwoofer to stock HU

you need to get a line converter. it converts the speaker lines out to rca outputs. Connect the line converter to the rear channels on the stock headunit.

otherwise get an amp that has speaker level inputs and just tap off the rear speakers and connect right to the amp that way.

Depends. You can have it switched. You can have it come on with the ignition.

It`s fairly easy. You need to get 12 volts to the REMOTE connector on the amp, in order to switch it on. Where do you get those 12 volts from, it`s up to you. I`d reccomend splitting (using a Y piece) a 12 volt wire going into your radio, run it through an ON/OFF switch that you place within your reach, and then continue running it to the REMOTE connector of your amp. The amp will be on as long as you provide 12 volts to its remote connector, and will be off the second the power is interrupted.

Another option if you have not purchased your amp, is an amp
with line level inputs, with signal sensing. It senses the signal and turns on.

Run Power Line, splice from rear speakers, to the amp, then wire to your sub

Nice thing about tapping into the rear spearkers, you can use your "FADE" adjustment
to kinda adjust your sub output. Just incase you need to.
