Slanted box?
I can gains some extra cu/ft for my box if I build it with a slanted back, would this be a problem with a vented box? Would I just have to angle the vents along the backside with the angle of the back?
Thanks

Re: Slanted box?
If you build a box with no slant you can get more cu/ft out of it. As far as venting goes, that all depends on the sound you want, you'd have to look it up in your sub's manuals.

Re: Slanted box?
How is that? If I put a slant on the back it allows me to use the airspace that would have been between the back of a flat box and the slanted seats. By putting a slant on the back I can gain more cu/ft. And the problem with using the design in the manuals is that it calls for a 44in wide box, where I can only fit a 33 inch box between the brackets coming off the towers in the rear for the seats. Plus I have a strut brace above the box.

Re: Slanted box?
Ah, if you were referring to the exact slant of the seat then I agree, a slant is the best way to go. I've had a few hatch style boxes that just made air space because the slant was to big. If you're building your own box then I do recommend building it to fit the car, use all the space you can to get your cu/ft in.

Re: Slanted box?
Would 2.17cu/ft be to big for a sealed enclosure with 2 subs? Or should I go ported? The reccomended enclosure by the manufacturer is .75cu/ft. per sub. It doesn't say if that's with or without the sub inside. And vented is 1.25cu/ft per sub.
I was thinking of doing a vented enlosure, but now I'm wondering if I should go with a sealed enclosure. I know I won't hit a high spl with the sealed, but I'm thinking it would go nicely with the carputer, 4 channel amp, alpine type r components and 2 ways... The two subs together are being pushed with 900watts RMS, 450Watts RMS to each. Which is 50RMS over their rating, but that shouldn't be a problem...

Re: Slanted box?
actually i always count the sub as taking up space. as for spl ive always had higher #'s with sealed enclosures, then again didnt play with ported box for to long. also went through 4 different box sizes till i got to the sound that i liked.
dont know which subs your installing so dont know what power it would handle. |

Re: Slanted box?
The subs are 2 10" MTX MXS1004s. Rated for 800watts max and 400rms. And + or - 50RMS won't kill them.
The original intentions were to build a box that would fit where i wanted it and then vent it accordingly to get the sound I was looking for... Now i'm undecided?!
