Amp placement ?

I was wondering where would the best place to mount my amps. I have heard mounting the box is a big "no no", and on the back seats is the best idea. Is this true? Would I just screw them into the back of the seat and thats it?

Re: Amp placement ?

thats what I did for both my amps. Ive heard the same about not mounting to the box, but ive seen it done alot and never really heard of an amp failing because of it.

as for the back of the seat, it was pretty simple. there is the carpeted part then metal under that, I just drilled pilot holes through both and screwed em in.

Re: Amp placement ?

Thats where I have the amp for my highs. But my sub amp is on top of the box with 4 rubber gromets between it and the box but i dont think they are doing much. When I first my amp on box after a few months of really hard bassing my ground came loose.

Re: Amp placement ?

Back of the seats or make boards and mount them in the side gaps behind the rear fender wells... on the box is a no no... think about it, if a theif was to look in 2 cars, one the box is bolted or screwed down, and the amps the same to the back of a seat... and the other car the amp is mounted on the box, which would you hit first? ding ding, survey says, the all in one package!!! lol

Edit, dont run your wires like Iceberg did tho lol... no offense iceberg... for a more professional looking install, remove back seat, run the power cable along the back edge of where the seat would be, across and up the back of the seat, running it under the carpet, through a slit about 3 inches from where the power/ground inputs are... then only 3 inches of wire is showing, same with the rca's... make sure you have enough slack that you can put your seats down without stressing the wires...

Re: Amp placement ?

ya thats actually an old pic from right after the install to make sure everything was working properly. Wires only show a little now, and there is a giant sub box infront of everything. thats just the only pic I had of just my amps and how they were mounted. I'm concidering getting rid of the capacitor too, all i really use it for is the digital readout other then that it really doesnt do much.

Re: Amp placement ?

Yea I had one amp stolen from me a few years ago and it was on teh back of the box but it was like 1000 watt PPI so it was pretty long and I didnt have anywhere else to put it in my Focus. And plus if someone had stolen the box and amp together they would had to been the Hulk. The box was HUGE. The box was bout 5 cubic ft. for 2 RF Power HX2 12s with 4 3 inch ports. So basically the back of my Focus ZX3 was a box. Luckily insurance covered it and i got the then at the time 1501BD RF. Still to this day I am pissed and would love to find out who stole my amp.\

And the box i got know isnt light with the 2 L7s in it so im not to worried plus I have a alarm now and back then I didnt.

Re: Amp placement ?

Other than easier theft, are there other reasons not to put the amp on the sub box? Vibration?
