finally got my new HU installed pics pg 2

The unit Im looking at is the Pioneer AVH-P4000 because its priced within my range and have read decent things about it on various review sites. I have a few questions about this before I go head first into it.
How much harder is this installation over a regular cd player (hu link at bottom). What exactly is required to make it fit besides the double din dash kit which Im kind of having trouble finding for an 02 cougar. I have all the wire harnesses and antenna adapters from my previous unit. And I did do the installation of my old unit so I do have a little knowledge of whats there.
My other question is I guess what is your input of this unit? I dont want to spend anymore than like 350 plus the kit and other accessories. Is this unit worth it or could my money be spend well on something else? Just curious because Im hoping I can upgrading soon and do it myself.

Re: looking to upgrade HU few ?'s

Well for one I want it to play cd's want to be able to connect my ipod (which I believe I will need to buy a separate cord for) I also want a remote (believe that is separate as well) Want it to play movies but dont plan on using that feature to much though only planning 2 maybe 3 long trips but thought it would be nice at the thru-stops for a break. Dont really need HD radio though depending the cost may try it (dont know much about it to be honest) Other then listed would like something dependable that sounds decent. Recently installed alpine-s speakers and was hoping to compliment them with this unit if its worth it.

How hard is the install?

Re: looking to upgrade HU few ?'s

Install is straight forward just like anyother headunit. It will be a nice tight fit and look clean

You should check out AVIC411.com. You'll find more personal use info there using the search feature

I Dont believe that make a double din kit for our cars... You need an 01-02 dash which I believe you have and then mod the dash kit to get it to fit.....Wade just got done with the avic D3 install that turned out really nice...I would PM him for a how to

Re: looking to upgrade HU few ?'s

They do make a double din kit for the 01/02s. I found one at my local shop.

Well for the lowest end unit you'll probably see it around 5 to 600 dollar range. The most expensive one is supposed to come in at around $1200.

Yeah the lowest i have seen like the avic d3 is around $540.

I decided to avoid the whole lcd screen thing seeing as how i know i would get minimal use out of it. When we put it one in my buddies grand am gt we thought "awesome we can watch movies and play video games n ****", that was 4 years ago and i think we used it for such purposes like twice. Thats just my 2 cents though.

I just ordered one of these Pioneer USA - Premier off of amazon.com the other day for $249.

Re: looking to upgrade HU few ?'s

lemme know how it looks cause that HU is fresh! I just got an 01-02 bezel, but I couldn't see getting that much use out of an lcd screen. I will say that you will need an external amp to power your speakers. Its running about 14watts RMS x 4. I have an Orion that puts out 100Watts RMS per channel if you were interested.

Re: looking to upgrade HU few ?'s

to be honest I dont plan on watching too many movies either but I have two decently long trips planned this summer and thought the movie thing would be nice to pass time on the thru-stops. I also liked this unit because there is no motorized flipping and stuff. For one there isnt enough room with my shifter (which I dont want to cut down). And this is just my opinion but motorized monitors to me are just asking for problems unless you go higher end which I dont want to spend.

also did a lot of searching on here and found this kit:
1995-2002 FORD MERCURY Installation Dash Kit FM-K552

this is the kit needed correct? That center divider must just break away if you dont need it?

I think I may be getting this unit soon... just need to shop around for prices because I have most of the stuff needed to install..... and from what Ive read on others who installed similar units there was some trimming to the dash that was needed so I will keep that spare bezel in mind lostracer (I tend to get out of control sometimes )
