After just an hour? I'm not just saying when it's 90 degrees..it can be 70 and still overheat.

If your amps are getting absolutely no airflow, which I assume they aren't being enclosed under plexi-glass, an hour seems reasonable. The thing that is worrisome is that if you keep overheating the amps, they WILL fail at some point. It'd be best to improve airflow sooner than later.

Re: Post your audio system!

If I'm on a trip that's longer than an hour, I will turn them off before I even leave.

And that's right, no air flow at all. I have this plexiglass that has holes in it, but I don't think that would look right.

I was originally going to suggest drilling holes, but I don't think it would look right so I didn't suggest it. You know what would look bada$$ and could solve the problem is to make a design and cut it out with a jigsaw, maybe the cougar head or the Mercury emblem. That way you could at least get air in there

Re: Post your audio system!

Buy some slimline directional airflow fans. Computer fans won't move enough air to cool the amps properly. You need to move a flat line of air across the entire heatsink of the amp for any cooling to be effective. Most likely the amp is not overheating, it's going into protection mode and shutting itself down before it does overheat. If it overheated multiple times, you wouldn't have amps left.

My amps all run SUPER hot -- like if you touch them they WILL brand the Orion logo on you. Of course I'm running 2400 watts out of each of them at 1ohm. =)
