Latest SPL Install

Well, I got the SPL bug again, so here's my latest endeavor. The box is built as a streetable box, meaning I can still play music as well, its not one of my pure 100% SPL boxes that'll destroy subs if not used with a test CD. I did this so I can not only compete again, but still listen to the radio while towing one of the other cars.

Now onto pics...

The Orion Xtreme 9002 -- great amp, and not only produces more power than they state, but I've kept it stable at 1ohm via watercooling in the past. I will be running it at 2x450 @ 2 ohms -- which means the subs will be very underpowered, but it should make a nice streetable system. Once I installt he amp I'll test it using the TermLab and see where it rates, if its not "enough" I happen to have another 9002 in the closet, and I'll switch over to 900x1 @ 4 ohms, one on each sub. (Still underpowering them greatly.) Then if that's not enough I'll drop in one of my really big amps.

Here's a closeup of the subs, they are 12" Orion HCCA DVC's, and have something like 4" of linear excursion. They each weigh about 70lbs, and have a MASSIVE magnet on them.

If the box looks big, its because it is. 2.5 cuft of airspace per sub, double reinforced interior, and two sheets of 3/4" MDF for the box face to hold the weight of the subs. (Its closer to 2.7 cuft per side because of the basket and reinforcement displacement.) As you can see its a ported box, and its been tuned to 33 Hz for maximum effectiveness. (Ports are actually close to 12.5" long made of 3/4 MDF and sealed.) Overall the box takes up 90% of the room in the back of the Yukon and takes two people to move it.

I will be installing the first amp tomorrow if I get a chance, but for now I'm wiring up the power distribution and fusing, isolator, and 2nd battery under the hood. I also have to pull my DEQ-30 out of storage so I can fully tweak the setup -- but it should be rather nice. I will be testing it once its all tweaked, and I'll post the numbers I hit then...

Looks good E1. Let us know when you test it to see what you are putting out because I'm curious.

Yeah, I have a pile of amps that I refuse to sell, lol. (All of the good Orions.) My stock consists of 4x 225, 2x 425, 3x 2100 HCCA's (all of these the old cheater series red amps), and then I have a bunch of the Xtreme's and a few of the really rare Ntense line (NT). I'm a packrat, plus I know these are hard to find now. I've had people offer $3000 for a 2100 before -- those amps were known as "The Beast" for a reason.

Nice setup you've got too man! :D But yeah, the 2 should be good enough for me, my last wall had 4 HCCA's and was nuts -- so I scaled back, lol. Then again with my 24" wheels I gotta have a crazy loud system in Detroit, right?

Very nice John! I'd still have all my Orion amps if some Jackass didn't steal them.
