I just picked up a 99 i4 5spd. Really loving the hell out of just driving the car, even if it's not the fastest. So my question, I am just over 90K, should I let the dealer do the 90K service and pay the $200+? I just thought it would be a good "piece of mind" kinda thing. Thanks all.

Man, this is cause for celebration!
Sorry, I'm over in Rock Island, so I'm local. Whats up dude?
Also, how mechanically apt are you? What is the dealer including in that $200?

Well supposedly it a "complete" suspension check, oil change, rad flush, trans something or other. They had a whole list posted behind the counter. It seemed ok, but mostly it looked like check this and that. But I figured that then they would be responsible if it's jacked-up. It's good to be back in the QCA.

My personal opinion is the stealership is overpriced, and there's usually smaller mom n' pop type shops that can perform stuff like that for a much better price. I'm personally in a situation where I pretty much have to take the car in to shops for service since I live in an apartment complex where they frown upon **** like changing tour oil in the parking lot and etc.
I'd recommend River City Tire, they've always treated me very well.

That's kinda how I was leaning. I figure the easy stuff I'll do, let a non dealer shop do the rest. Apartments and wrenching suck. I had a carport for 4 years and Volvo, that was messy.

Yeah, plugs, wires, stuff like that's not too bad, but if it involves fluids, its off to River City I go.
If you wanna meet some other locals, scroll down from the main page and click on the Midwest section. We're kinda scattered, there's me and one other guy here in the QC, couple guys out in Cedar Rapids, and then some others sprawled across Iowa and in to Nebraska, but its better than nothing. We don't really have much in the way of meets, though we used to get lunch every Friday at Hooters, though that appears to have fallen off to the wayside.
I usually go to the IL meets when they have them, as well as the ones in Michigan, so there's plenty of stuff going on, depending on how enthusiastic you are and how far you're willing to drive.

Hehe, that would be a decent place to go too. I'm assuming you're 21 then? Which is good, if you ever go out to The District or whatever, let me know, I live pretty much right in it.
River City is on Brady Street, right across from Klemm's Klassic Kars. If you know where The Filling Station is, you're in business.

Hey, welcome man.
The thing about the Dealership once-over is, it's NEVER $200. They drum up a bazillion and one things that they want to replace or repair, and charge you out the wazoo for it. Everybody goes into hysterics, and normally, people just hand over the cash because the techs scare them into it.
So if you can hold them to the standard $200 service, and don't let them do any more work than that, you'll be ok.
Welcome to NECO!

I prefer to use the sexual preditor term of "grooming".
anyways, I gotta lean on the side of going to the stealership for the checkup. 200 isnt crazy expensive and definitely will be worth the peice of mind that all those services/checks are infact done [I love the ma and pa places for dealing with specific issues but not for checkups]
