That's right ol' red is gone. Traded her in for a white 2006 VW GTI 2.0T with the DSG transmission(aka:The coolest auto trans ever). We just got done signing the papers around 10:30pm this evening. I will post up some pics tomorrow evening. I'm really looking forward to driving to Cinci tomorrow, I bet I get there in record time.

PICS AS PROMISED!

They orginally only offered me $2300, after fighting with them over price on both the GTI and trade-in I was able to get a whopping $3k for the cougar. :thumbsdn: Although the CEL come on when they were driving the car, so that didn't help I'm sure.

There are a handful of things I would love to do to the car already, but the only thing that will probably happen anytime in the remote near furture would be a mild bodykit/lip kit, and maybe some springs to give it a little better stance.

Reflashing the computer is very tempting since it would yeild about an additional 60hp and almost 100ft/lbs of torque.  Those kind of numbers are a cougar owners wet dream, but I must wait out atleast some of the 5 year warranty. Plus I need to finally get the cougar to the level I want it.

Edit* N/m I'm dumb. Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct-Shift_Gearbox) I remember hearing about this. Upshifts in 8ms! Ok manual tranny users, your times coming to an end. :)

Paddleshifts for the win. I was confused for a bit.

Yeah I did some Google-ing on the DSG since I had never heard about it before and that thing is sweet. Man, automatic trannys have came a long way since this metal wad of **** they put in the coug!

Still has a viscous coupling; I don't care how quick it shifts. All things being equal, a manual will still out-perform it.

Car looks awesome, Dan. The GTI has ALWAYS been my favorite Volkswagen.

So... without a viscous coupling, it's not really an automatic transmission at all. This is neither automatic nor manual... weird.

It's hard to see in the video - was that thing running flat-15's?

I just don't know if I could give up my clutch; it comforts me. I like to be able to throw it in neutral instantaneously, without reaching for the shifter... like for winter driving, or for revving on ricers. ;) (I made some asian kid in an old Accord almost jump through his roof yesterday; Lisa was with me - she got a good laugh out of that).

Haha, too funny.

55 and 4500rpm is recommended for the first I think 1000 miles, or 500. Its apart of the cars break in period, my friend has a new GTI and he had to go through that.

Car and Driver (http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=16&article_id=10251)

14.7 sec 1/4 mile
6sec 0-60

This thing doesn't really even have much more power then us. 197 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. I don't know how much they weigh but damn.

nadthomas

Actually our GTI is every so slightly used, it has 5k miles on it. No break in period for me  I just hope the orginal owner did it right.

Although it might be slower with the MTX, I think it would be a little more fun with the MTX. Lara was dead set on on ATX, so I'm glad we stumbled across the DSG. Yeah, it sucks not being able to rev it at a stop light. I was next to an 06 Mustang GT, and I so wanted to rev the engine to see if he would play, but I couldn't bring myself to drop to neutral just to rev the car.

That's a Euro-spec test model, without all the US de-tuning. But yeah, that's sweet.

Oh... Sorry. :(

Yea. I just feel like a flat out punk throwing it into neutral to rev. So I just avoid it altogether, I also avoid a lot of people trying to race me.

This just pisses me off. The dealership called me up the other day saying that the pay off was some how $200 more then what we orginally thought, and they wanted me to pay the difference. One the finance manager had said the would take care of any small differences, and two they only gave me $3k for the cougar claiming it wasn't worth anywhere near the $4500-5k I was asking for the cougar. Just out of curiousity I hop on the dealerships website and find that they are selling the car for almost $7k  :gtfo:

Hey Dan, maybe you should tell them to check the paint code again, 'cause that ain't Laser Red. It's Rio Red, maroons.

Werd. There's not much metallic in Rio Red either.

I feel for ya. I get mad when people say my car is Silver Frost. The Satin Silver is FAR sexier, the frost is just dull. :cover:

Once someone called my car grey .... I almost went postal! :slap:

BTW Silver Frost isn't dull ... unless my car isn't really Silver Frost. Who knows? It's pretty hard to tell since there arent any stickers on it at all =\

Ok if all the papers are signed I wouldnt dare pay them that extra $200. Its up to them to make sure everything is right BEFORE you drive off the lot. Buyer Beware and all that ( as long as you were trying to purposely decieve them- which you werent)

What they are doing is close to a "Bait and Switch". They are trying BILK you for more money so they can make more on your trade in.

DO NOT PAY THEM.

nadthomas
08-28-2006, 10:19 PM
Yeah, I didn't pay them a penny more. I would have given the damn GTI back, and gotten my cougar back if they wanted to push the $200. I already wasn't terribly happy with them. I mean ****, I just spent $24k at that dealership and they want to go and piss me off further saying I need to pay them another $200. If the GTI wasn't such a cool little car, I would have seriously considered taking it back. If they wanted to fight me over that I'm well connect to lawyers. I work for an IT consulting firm that is run by lawyers because we only work with law firms. So I personally work with over 100 different firms, and then Lara is a paralegal for "Vorys, Sator, Seymore, and Peas", which is the single largest law firm in Ohio, and probably one of the larger firms in the US. Oh, yeah don't dick with me.
