I bought a new set of shifter cables from Bill J and I put the cat on a lift to see how I can remove the old one and it looks like the bolt that holds the bracket in place is under the HVAC stuff inside the cabin.
Has anyone swapped theirs out? If you have, do you have any pointers for the install?
I talked to a mechanic and he said he would do it for $100  but yeah right, I'll pocket my hundred and do the job myself.

Thanks

The bushings on my old cables some how went missing... so where my cable attaches to the shift tower there is about a 1" hole where there is supposed to be a bushing... Hence I got new cables to swap in, they are a much better design where it attaches to the shift tower also.

you can change just the ends. it's much easier. I think they are about $15 to change and take about 1/2 hour to do. the bushings just fail though so don't think it is an odd thing to happen to you ;)

You have to remove the center console entirely, and the kick panels, and cut a hole in the carpet to get to the bolt. No lie.

you can't but you can buy the ends rather than the entire cable.

once its unbolted from the shifter, there was one or two bolts and then they pull out (after they have been disc from the tranny of coarse) i have pulled a few sets out of foci that i have stripped, but all the interior is already out when i do them. i might be missing something since it has been about a year since i have pulled any out

I worked on it last night, and this is by far the most PITA part I have delt with on this car! My hands are torn up and I have about 1" of room to work with inside and outside of the car. I didn't finish last night, I have to go at it again tonight after work... the end connections are 100% better then the old ones though ;)

I finally got it in! With a lot of sweat and busted up knuckles :( Man, that was the most annoying install I've ever done, for something so little... anyways, everything is in and solid but I have no idea how that spring was seated for the shifter, it helps bring the shifter handle back to the middle. So if anyone has a picture, that would be awesome

Thanks for all of your help and words of advice, you guys rock
