My buddy calls me and told me he just picked up his '04 Chevy Colorado, and he took it down to where everyone hangs out on the weekends and races. He says he traps higher then my car does at the ~ 1/4 mile mark. So I instanly drive down there as soon as I can and race him.

Race 1 - I launch from 2 grand and slip the clutch to avoid any wheel hop what so ever. At the 1/4 mile mark we're dead even, he may about a foot on me by the time i have to shift into fourth to finish the 1/4 mile.

Race 2 - I launch from 5 grand slip the clutch to avoid bad wheel hop and I destroy him off the line, probly pulled a full car lengnth on him. Shift to 2nd and pull anouther half car. Shift to third and my shift linkage comes undone (has been doing that recently, waiting for the dealer to schedual an appointment) but it goes into third and I get to 6 grand and i let it sit there, cause I can't shift to fourth. till the 1/4 mile mark.

Race 3 - So it's 1 to 1, we each have a win. So I launch it hard, Bang bang bang goes the wheel hop, I pull super hard on him, shift to 2nd with out even getting off the gas, and grab third slowly so my linkage doesn't come undone again and I have 2-3 cars on him by the end.

Good stuff, jsut looked up the info on his truck:

3.5L inline five cylinder
Horsepower: 220 @ 5600
Tourque: 225 @ 2800

Yeah, something new chevy has been doing. I think the old saabs/volvos had inline 5's as well, not sure.

...I don't think the ECU will let you rev to 5000 sitting still. Check that.

My dad has a GMC Canyon, basically the same as the Colorado, and that thing definitely surprised me! He has an 05, coming up from a 96 T100 which was slower than a snail.

I do believe that the transmission in that truck is the same GM put into the solstice.

what do you have done to your cougar? curious because my buddy has an 06 Canyon with the inline 5 and has an intake and exhaust and traction bars on it! I ddin;t think it had a claimed 220 though.... seemed a little slower when I was in it (still preety fast, but seemed like a close match for the cougar before the mods went in, and I haven't been in it since any of the mods have gone in though)

i wonder if I'd beat my buddies then with my GMK CAI, MSDS Headers and soon enough to be a Trubendz y-pipe with test pipe section and flowmaster dual? or if I'd need anything else done to the car... maybe an optimized SVT TB and an SVT UIM should do it if not! :D

inline 5's are great motors.. great fuel economy and power... Volvo's love the engine and have been using it for years
