So I bought a generic CAI for my F150 5.4L Triton engine and holy heck this thing made a huge difference. I drove to MI a few weekends ago for 3 hrs each way and got 20 MPG without the intake, last weekend I drove 2 hrs each way to my GFs including a lot of stop and go highways, and still got OVER 25mpg!!!
I mean seriouslly, I didnt even reset the ECU I just let the engine get used to it and reset the mixtures etc. itself. I mean this thing is unreal, I can't get over the difference, not just in sound and throttle response, but 5mpg on a 29 gallon tank, means in like less than 2 months it ll pay completely for itself!
If anyone has a bigger SUV or truck out there, even with a stock box, KN filter, REPLACE IT with a cheap CAI off ebay and you ll see the benefits!
Sorry for this long post but if gas is really going to go up a dollar a gallon like they are saying cuz of the pipeline, this would be a life saver!!
Even if you dont have a truck/suv, get a CAI it ll pay for itself.
Brian you can probably attest to this as well with your V8 Silverado?!? Let me know if you got the same results, I mean this is in less than a whole week!

Gas shouldn't go up due to that pipeline, or so I've been reading. We'll see.
Intakes are even more sweet when put on huge truck engines. My friends stepdad's Silverado hauls balls with just a intake/exhaust/chip.

My parents had a Triton V8 in one of their conversion vans and that thing was a monster. I've been debating an intake so I guess maybe I should get one.

Dude on my 3.0 if I got 18 it was a miricale of God's cuz of my huge tires etc. I even had a slip in KN filter on that bad boy too.
My triton intake was this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05-06-FORD-F150-PICKUP-5-4-2-4WD-AIR-FILTER-INTAKE-R_W0QQitemZ270018593995QQihZ017QQcategoryZ38634QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem Except the price is 10 bucks lower, now!! Dangit! :(
Diane, yes get one, Slade, yes get one. Thats all I got lol.

I know on the Ranger boards mods don't really result in much change at all. It must be different for the full size trucks.

Do you guys think this would help out on my dad's truck? He has a 98 S-10 wth the Vortech 3.8 V6, and I know he would like to get better gas mileage.
How about in a 93' GMC 2500 Suburban?
(just installed a 4in exhaust, its a beast!)
Gotta love purchasing outta state trucks.

Not saying you didnt get that kind of mileage but damn i wish i did...Also my truck is in great condition so its not an issue of it not running correctly. If your not messing with us im jealous !

One thing I dont ever joke about is MPG and the price of gas. When I wrecked and totalled my ranger, I wasnt that upset my GF had to stay in the Hosp. for 2 nights, but instead was pissed I had just paid 310 a gallon for gas and filled up in Mansfield. I lost 75 bucks on that deal and was NOT happy, I would ve dropped my tank or siphoned it out if I had the chance/tools, trust me Im serious.

He may not have been able to physically get to the truck. Some junkyards/insurance companies are really weird about that.

I own a 2002 F150 supercab FX4, 4.6 Triton V8 with a 5 speed manual. The only engine mod is the K&N intake system...I get about 13, if I'm lucky. Of course the 16x10 wheels probably don't help any

Heh, well, i haven't seen much change in mileage. Actually, it's up and down for me. Ever since i installed it i've been running around a lot and i've almost always had a load of some type. Couple weeks ago i helped a buddy haul some old guard rail poles to his house. Then after that i had all my tools and stuff in my truck for the motor cities neco meet. I still haven't unloaded all that stuff from my truck... That, and i can't seem to keep my damn foot off the gas. I just love that sound!

Yeah, same with me and the Cougar. My MPG went down after the exhaust was installed, and it's not because the intake & exhaust are LESS efficient. They just sound so darn good
