I just got off the phone with Dan, and he wanted me to post this message for him.

Dan's dad had two heart attacks yesterday, luckily he was at the hospital for both of them. Unfortunitly, they gave him Nitro, which he was unknowingly allergic too. He went into cardiac arrest, but was brought back by the medical staff. Today, they found out he had clogged arteries (I believe Dan said 3), and a blocked valve. Dan said they are prepping him for surgery now, and that he has the best surgeon on his case. The prognosis is promising, well as promising as one can be given the severity of the situation.

Dan won't be on the boards for a bit, and will be in and out of contact as cell phones aren't allowed inside the hospital. If Dan calls me with updates, I'll post them here. Dan's also hoping all goes well so that he can attend Ken's wedding Saturday, but as we all know, there may be extenuating circumstances.

My prayers are with you and your father Dan.

On a personal note, my wifes (Cheryl's) father almost passed away this past week. A routine prostate surgery almost claimed his life when the now robotic preformed routine was botched badly and the Doctors basically passed the buck and dropped the ball. He may be moved out of ICU today after a week from hell that started last Monday. Not a good week for NECO family members.

That's terrible news...but on the bright side, thank god his dad was at the hospital! My dad has twice had procedures done to unclog some blocked arteries. It can be some scary stuff, but having a good doctor can make all the difference. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad Dan. I'm sure he'll pull through just fine. When it happened to my dad it was a real wake up call for him and he totally changed his lifestyle. He started running and exercising like crazy, after a year, i swear to god he could have kicked my ass! So fear not Dan! I'm sure your dad will be good as new after they fix him up!

hey guys....not going to be on the computer long, it's been a long day. I suspect tomorrow will be just as long....anyway, here's a quick run down:

Sat - dad thought he was having heartburn at 12 midnight, walked around, fell asleep for an hour, this was ongoing for a few hours.

Sunday - at noon my dad called his brother in law (they were supposed to go out on his boat) said heart burn not going away. 1pm - went to hopsital. 2:30pm, he was in the waiting room, and started to have a heart attack, they put him on the bed and he went into what they classify as a mild-mid heart attack, gave him a shot of nitro, he began convulsing, eyes rolled back into his head, and he had a seizure. 4pm-I arrived at the hospital (they finally found my number in his wallet) I was at the hospital in 10 minutes. 5:00pm, I had just finished talking to my dad, he said he was feeling better and looking at his BP it was evening out fine, I walked out of the room, his girlfriend went in and told her not to tell me he had a heart attack, (I allready knew as the staff nurse told me EVERYTHING), no sooner, he has another, girlfriend get's pushed out of the room, they wouldn't let me in either, 30 minutes later, I go in, sit with him for an hour, he tells me "it's not looking good kid" and just then s moved to CCU on the 5th floor, he tries to rest, dr's tell us to leave him for the night.

Monday-7am, I get a call (left on the answering machine at home...when I gave them my cell number) that my dad is going in for an angiograhm (or something) we get there at 10:30am (they told me to wait when I called back at 8am) results are 4 clogged arteries, 1 clogged valve. He has options of bypass or angiosentisis.....he chooses the angio. 11:30am, he's moved to the other hospital, a bed in the O.R. is open with one of the best in SW Ontario. The procedure lasts 5 hours, he is then transported back to Victoria Campus via ambulance. 7pm, we wait, he is having massive bleeding. In the waiting room the nurse on staff informs me they will be suspending his drivers liscense for 3 weeks if/wen he is released. 10pm, he is still bleeding, he tells me to go home, I wait, and the nurse tells me I have to go as he will be in quite a bit of pain.

SOoooo......they have him listed as unstable at the moment. If the bleeding slows, he should be fine, the major concern right now is blood clots. He is O- blood type (pretty rare) and lost quite a bit tonight, not to mention is in a hell of a lot of pain. They have cleared the blockages, but has 6 shunts in him. Chris and I will be there tomorrow for the entire morning as we also have the OBGYN appointment. I told him he can't go anywhere, he has to be a grandpa first....and told him I loved him when I left.

For those who don't know my dad.....he goes to the gym for 2 hours a day monday-thursday, he is not over weight, and is VERY active......I've done alot of thinking, and shed alot of tears (yeah, I'll admit it.....but he's a MAJOR influence in ALL aspects of my life), and am not much of a prayer, but have done my fair share lately.....

I know this was going to be a quick post.....but I want to thank you guys for your support. I'll hopefully get on tomorrow night....depending on how things go.

Thanks all,

Dan

Christine and I were with my dad most of the morning....he's looking ALOT better than I thought he would today. He has the list of things he can and cannot do for the next 4 weeks, the first 2 weeks he can't walk any longer than 2 periods of 15 minutes a day. Other than that....he can't do anything.

He's a little bummed that he can't drive at all, he's not even allowed to go grocery shopping for 3 weeks lol. Soooo....I'm going to be staying at the house for a while to keep him company. I have our mechanic coming over to take him for a "drive" in the vette later this week.

Looks like dad might be home tomorrow :bowdown:

He's gonna love a ride in the vette. I'm sure it'll go by fast, and he can get up and about.

wow.. yeah! If he is as active as you said he was, being able to do NOTHING for a month or more is going to be rough!

Time to get him some video games and lots of movies / books :)

glad to hear he's doing better!

here is what his daily routine WAS until now...

Monday - Thursday

7am - wake up, have cereal/oatmeal for breakfast, coffee and read the paper
8am - leave for work
1pm - leave work and go to gym
3pm - come home, take dog for walk around the block
4pm - either wash car, do yardwork, or walk around the block again without dog
5:30pm - eat dinner
6:30pm - walk to timmies for a coffee, work on yard, go out with friends
10pm - come home and watch TV for an hour
11pm - go to bed

Weekends.....goes everywhere, he usually goes to the beach and sleeps on the boat, next weekend he planned to go to Barrie and the weekend after to Niagra Falls....needless to say he won't be now.

EDIT: Matt, any chance you can mail some topgear vids via Fedex? (I'll pay of course) I'm thinking he'll like that. He's going to have 4 weeks ahead of him of not being able to drive and for 50% of it not go anywhere. One of the neighbours volunteered to take hime to Timmies each day, another volunteered his patio for my dad to sit out in the shade when he wants to (he can't be in alot of heat for 2 weeks)....it should be interesting.

Absolutely!
He has a computer and all that fancy stuff to play them? (I'd imagine so)

Good call!!!

I used to find building models very relaxing and enjoyable.

Only thing is maybe the fumes from the model glue may be a bit sketchy for him...I dunno...Its been years since I last did one...Maybe its not as bad now-a-days.

Glad to hear he is doing much better. The fact that they are even considering letting him out tomorrow is the best sign you can ask for.

He has a healthy lifestyle, which is why he will recover from this very quickly.

all avi format... definitely a job for a computer.

I would KILL for a dvd set of topgear! heh! I mean, i'm sure theres a computer junkie way of making it playable in a dvd, but I have no idea, and probably don't even have the right hardware/software for it.

I'll send you/him my original discs... since I have them all on my Harddrive... they are my master copies though - so take care of them. no using them as beer coasters :)

awesome, thanks Matt

just lemmie know how much $$ to send you for shipping.

Maybe I'll move the computer up to his room so he can watch them there :)

as for the models, I might consider it, he needs glasses to read to it might be irritating after a while lol....I'll head to Walmart and see what's there. If I can find him a few oler corvettes it might be worth the time.

they have simple ones, and then if he wants, he can paint them all fancy. The fumes aren't half as bad as they used to be. I think he might like it, make the time pass faster, and feel like you're actually doing something.
