What is the best brand and best company to purchase a nitrous kit for the cougar, taking into consideration the properly included parts. What I mean is, who has a kit that has nearly everything needed for a specific install on a V6 Mercury Cougar. I would like to buy minimal other things after I purchase a kit, so I was hoping there is a good place to buy a nitrous kit from where all the necessary items are included. And what jet size would you all recommend for a basically stock cougar like mine?

If your car is returnless, I believe you HAVE to have a wet kit.

I beleive I can have a wet kit whether I am return style or returnless style, correct? It's just that I CAN have a dry kit if I have return style only.

So anyways....is ZEX my only recommendation? What did everyone else do? Just piece ittogether from ebay or something?

Read a lot ... with the installation I did lately ...I asked so many questions ...everything you need to know is here ... And be sure to use teflon paste on NPT threads and not teflon tape ..

I would just pick up a cheap used NX wet kit off of Ebay or something. Zex may be a good kit, but there is nothing wrong with a NX kit.

I was hoping to find somebody on here with a complete kit that they had on their cougar.....because I trust most people on here. Plus I know I get everything I need. So if you find somebody that's sellin theirs, let me know!

My car was built in September of 1999. Which style do I have, return or returnless? I'm just trying to figure out if I should run a wet or dry nitrous set up.

creativecougar
08-18-2006, 12:54 PM
Well...I just found out that I have a RETURN STYLE. So that means I can run a wet or dry kit, correct? Which would be easier?

CougarGuy939

dry shots are easier to run in my opinion... Something about messing wht the fuel that i just don't like

Lol. Yep. Like he said ^ It will have the maximizer kit and i already got to ordering the dual exit purge kit. I do have a question though....Where should I have the purge shooting out from? I don't know what will look better. What do you guys think? (Wheel wells, between hood and windshield, out of my hood scoop, etc.)?

CougarGuy939
08-23-2006, 12:06 PM
depends on what hood you have but i plan on doing it out the center of my predator hood

creativecougar

CougarGuy939

with the kam hood your probably better off having it come out the sides of the hood as long as it wont stop you from shutting the hood

you can do what I plan on doing which is find someone that is selling one Z3 or X1 fender and have it shoot out that. Id be willing to buy a kit and sell you one.lol

Best kit overall- Venom VCN-2000

Second Best kits- Zex Wet/ VCN-1000

I dont like NX or N.O.S because they utilize seperate solenoids for fuel and nitrous. More parts = more parts that could fail.

Where are you guys buying your zex kits from? I looked on spmotorsports and they have all the stuff Im going to get but they only have wet kits. Thanks

Are you serious? I would never think to buy something from ebay. Especially something like nitrous. Well I guess I'll look into it then.

I run the VCN-1000 made 238TQ to the wheels and 226FWHP
off of a 50 shot. Their tech service is AMAZING and they have
helped me tune my Nitrous control module over 4 times.
They are always very helpful...and their help is free!

It does like to hang towards the lean side though and I don't like
that. Hopefully this time is different we'll see when I go back to the dyno.

the VCN series only has dry shots right?

FastCougar
12-31-2006, 06:27 PM
Yes and no ... it doesn't have a seperate fuel solinoid, but instead controlls the injectors for the aditional fuel by increasing pulse width IIRC. Someone who has one will know for sure exactly how this is achieved, but technically, it's a "wet" system as extra fuel is being provided, just not by it's own solenoid.

The definition of a "Wet" system means it supplies it's own additional fuel "source." (i.e. a fuel solenoid tied into the fuel rail with an injection nozzle/nozzles)

The definition of a "Dry" system means it adds nitrous only.

Both Venom kits are Dry systems. The additional fuel available is limited by the injector size.

Exactly! You really need a wideband to determine if you are running lean with a nitrous system and not rely on the Venom method of using the factory sensor.

Correct!!!!
I believe that is where my leaning condition came from on the bottle.
It uses the stock O2 sensor off the header to determine whether or not the car is starting to lean out. If it is, it pulses the injectors to add fuel.
But I'm still experimenting with the system on the dyno to get
it where I want it.
