Hey everyone! I wanted to say thank you, I spent about a week reading all of the old threads and not only was it entertaining, at times hilarious, but I have learned a tremendous amount in the last few days from your posts.

I have a 2000 Coug. ATX. Totally stock sport pkg. It has been completely dealer maintained since I bought it a year ago this month. It has 81K miles on it. Actually, it's at the dealer right now, I ran over a tire and screwed up a CV joint or an axle?? I really don't know. I'm not mechanically illiterate but where the Coug is concerned I have done nothing but put fuel in it for the last year. But... it has had alot of work done at the dealer. For a while there I couldn't go a whole oil drain period without the CEL coming on. Over the last year I've put, a conservative est: about $5500 in it and another $2500 was done in warranty work. I don't know if I even had a warranty but when you spend that kind of $$$ at the dealer they have to kick you something, right?

Anyway, I'm planning on some light MOD's I dunno what yet. I kinda like the dampening pully thing. We'll see, I'm a little reluctant because it runs really well as it is. What I'm really interested in is the duratec 35, this is what the wypedia encyc said: "The engine is the same exterior size as the Duratec 30, and should be usable in all vehicles currently using that engine and its derivatives.. I've read alot of different opinions in here but if I was to yank my perfectly good engine out for any reason I would like to throw something in there that not many others have.... Thanks again..

Eh, you don't really need the DMD honestly, you really aren't going to see any gains out of it. Check out Demon's Web Site (http://home.kc.rr.com/newshore/Cars/SVT.html) He has pretty much mapped out the everything you could ever want to know about the cougar/contour.

But welcome and good luck with future mods on your car. Being a part of the forum will certainly save you money at the dealership. THe CEL(check engine light) is a common feature. think of it as a really slow strobe light.lol

Good advice jrak. I read the "redline & oil advice" on demon's site and that makes sense. I'll go with the updated pan and look into the Accusump. Thanx.

I also reasearched the duratec 35. Finally ford is thinking and modernizing:biggrin: . This engine is gonna be great for the mazda six guys but not for us.. It uses vvt(variable valve timing). the only way we could get those 300 horses to work in our car would be a complete ecu swap.(Big job) and the engine will most likely be priced pretty high when it first comes out in the fall so i dont think it will be worth it.
Welcome to the boards.....

Glad I could help you out. There is plenty of info on this site as well as www.contour.org If you do your searching and ask the right questions there is nothing you won't be able to figure out yourself.

how hard would it be to put a 35 in the cougar, i mean the tranny prob wouldnt bolt up. no matter whats involved im shore its alot, not to mention i would get robbed if i took it to a shop to do if they would even touch the project. do you think like around 12k would cover the swap and tune?

you cant really be certain... the engine is supposed to have the same tranny bolt pattern as the 3L.. however i have not found any details as of yet as to whether the engine mounting points, belts, acceceries,etc... are positioned.
If the duratec 35 is just a bored out version of the duratec 30 w/ vvtlike the lincoln ls, jag, and mazda.... then it would be less than 8g's for the swap complete swap .....(estimating here)..

Oh boy, lets not scare off the new guy
On a serious note, I would put aside the 3.5L idea until there is further info on it. Too much speculation going around.

And again, welcome! Hope you enjoy this place

I spent 10 years in Sac! No, I have discarded the 3.5 idea. I just won the ebay bid for a ST200 Duratec V6 24 Valve Intake Manifold with Throttle Body and IAC Valve; cost with shipping: $73.70

I don't know if this link will work but...
