well this week i came into some extra money, and was wanting to add some reliablility on my coug. I was looking at getting either the baffled oil pan or the metal water pump or both. Was wondering, does the oil pan really help and how much/hard was it to install the pan and pump.

Was debating on which would be more important to get next and if they are really worth it. Oh yea my car has 73000km (not miles)

well the oil pan is pretty easy except for one polt which is right under the sub frame.
ive never replaced the water pump but they made one with metal impellars because the plasic ones broke.

the oil pan will help for when you plan on going around a corner really fast.
the water pump will be very for when/if the plasic impellars break. you might find it has already been replaced though.

is there a way to tell the difference from a plastic one from a metal one without taking it out.

No. (Unless possibly there's some sort of part number cast into the outside, but I don't remember there being one.)

There are no OEM metal impeller water pumps AFAIK, so if your water pump is the one that came from the factory, it's plastic. Ford changed from the older black plastic that failed, to a newer white plastic that is fine. It's not hard to change the pump though, I changed my 'Tour's black plastic shattered impeller with a new white one earlier this spring.

I would do the oil pan first, start soaking your y-pipe bolts now.
