Well, I got bored and went out to the local "street races" this weekend (no, unfortunately, I wasn't minding my own business haha). The guys setting up the runs asked me if I was down for a race, I say "sure, why not?". I got set up against a pretty stock 92-96 model Prelude S. I think he said it had an F20 or F22 motor, something along those lines. Catback exhaust and ram air intake for mods. Anyways, we line up, hands go down, he launches on me a little (half a car or so). I stayed right there through first (his gears were shorter, I pull him slightly through the end of first as he's into second). I am still at his fender through second, third comes and he slowly pulls me. The quarter comes right at the end of third, and he's got me by 2/3's of a car or so. It wasn't too bad I suppose. I just don't race often, and figured I'd post my results. And, if anyone is curious, my car is mechanically stock.
I'd like to save up to do a full 3L build with bolt ons.... but I need to go to school and what not, so we'll see how that goes...

Car looks good, you're keeping it that way right?
An intake and exhaust and I'd say the story would've ended differently. Nice run.

Yea, thanks for the compliments guys, I guess I'll look into getting an intake and exhaust then, just to see how it goes. I know this is off topic for this forum, but would it be worth it to gut the precats? I have read some people say yes, and some say no... BTW, I have posted the car for sale, in case anyone is interested.

The pre-cats, in my opinion and others, is a waste. It's not proven to net you any more power, people just "feel" like they have more power. Don't do it half ass and just get a set of headers if you really wish.

Is it just me, or is there nothing that you can do to make Cougars faster inexpensively? haha, I've had mine for about 7 months now, and haven't found anything yet. I came from owning Civics and Neons, so I'm not used to having to pay so much for parts...

get an ebay intake (20$?) and a perfomance exaust and you will see a big difference/

It takes a bit of work to get it moving faster. Ebay intake and nice dual exhaust and you'll be set.

Preludes come with an H22 Motor DOHC Vtec. Last Prelude Models came around 200hp I think.
Accords=F20 I believe
GSR Tegs=B18B
RSX=K20
Most of your usually Ricers have the B16 swap which are ok but not a challenge stock to a V6 Cougar

He insisted that his car was not an H22. It was an earlier (92-96) style prelude, and it was the S model, not the Si or the VTEC. He seemed pretty confident that it was an F series motor. Also, I know several people in my area with B16 swapped EG (92-95) Civics, with I/H/E mods, and they run pretty consistant mid 14 second passes at the local drag strip.
Anyways... I'm away on vacation for a couple weeks, but when I return, I will be doing some serious research on intake / exhaust work, hopefully with an eventual purchase. Thanks for the info guys.
