Take a look at this (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=206300774&dealer_id=1151685&car_year=2000&mod_bookmark_id=null&search_type=both&num_records=&make=MERC&distance=50&model=COUGAR&address=32725&certified=&advanced=&max_price=10000&bkms=1154641165566&min_price=1&end_year=2002&start_year=1999&lang=en&cardist=10) 2000 Cougar. Is the center console in this car an 01-02 or is it some kind of mod? I've personally never seen an 01-02 console, but thanks to the cup spiller, I want to get one soon. What do you guys think?

I think you could order that style of center in 2000 Or is was part of some package. I've seen other bonestock 2000's without the cup spiller.

Me too they are grey to match the dash. IIRC they dont have arm rests though, the few I saw didn't have the arm rest.

late 2000MY DID have the 01/02 center console. mine did and all the ones at the dealerships that were 2000 didnt. they changed them sometime around march of 2000 i think... Ford dont have whole digit model years they have halfs and quarters too.

Damn...that sucks. Guess I just got screwed out of a cup holder. Oh well, it's not that bad. The cup spiller makes for a great place to hold your iPod while driving

My 99 non-sport has that same console, build date of 4/99. No armrest. I still don't know if a previous owner had a later-model put in, or if this one was somehow "snuck" from the factory like this. I do have my suspicions that Ford put something "developmental" in my car as far as the engine goes (as well as for some reason having a Factory GPS unit...)

It is a little module up in the dash that I don't think anyone else has ever seen in a Cougar, and the numbers come back to some sort of factory GPS tracking unit installed at the factory. How it got in there, I have no idea. The way a couple of things are on this car (freakishly powerful engine for stock), I think this is an "experimental" car or something that Mercury secretly snuck out and they stuck this unit on the car so they could keep track of it. I doubt I will ever know the full truth behind it, so its just fun to think about what it might be for.

Bobby, someone posted up that dealerships that offer the 'buy here, pay here' financing (like the place you bought your cougar at) put those in the cars in case you stop making your payments...

Enough already about the 'factory test car'

Its a special device put in by his buddy Gee-Dub . . . it transmits a signal to an implant in Boobya's brain that reminds him when its time for his monthly brainwashing . . .

its posted in there exactly what it is.. and a link to what site is and the exact same pic as what boby has. its not in any way a factory option or addin at the factory its an aftermaket thing. very doubtful its sometype of tracker for a 99 dollar down place. thats what the 2 bit repo men are for.

I remember that link foxslayer posted. That thing is WAAAAAAYYY to High-Tech for the place I bought this car from.

I really don't think it was a rental tracker either. I don't remember the Cougar's being rental cars, let alone a 5-speed version being a rental. Like I said, I doubt I will ever know what it really was put in there for, but its just fun to think about what it "MIGHT" be for.
