i tried to find the old thread about this topic, but the search seems out of it lately...
anywho...
The rods and pistions that ADC sell come either 2.5L/3.0L in low compression and high compression... No one rarely on here ever buys these cause they are MAJOR EXPENSIVE!!!.. 2 grand for this:eek:
Now this is what i am told.... with low compression, you don't ANY gained power... you would only get gained power ONLY with some type of super/turbo charger... so low compression only works with boosting then..
with high compression.... u get a power upgrade, but does not work well with boosting...
Is this correct???
thanks

correct, but you will have to change your spark and fuel table to work with higher compression, and if you want optimal performance you will have to get tuned for premium fuel.

^^^ yeah what he said. :) is it the more boost the lower the compression should be too?

every time you change you compression it will be a 5% difference in power for Example your at 10:1 and you go 8:1 you lose 10% if your at 9:1 and you go 10:1 you gain 5%. For each point changed you either gain or lose 5%.

okay, so why cant high compression be used with boosting then???

It can be, it's just not as friendly towards boost.

because boost is compressed air, and when you add it to the engine running a very high compression bad things happen

or you have to run like 110 octane +

2 grand for this
The forged internals were the least of my expenses in my build. :P

Okay, so back to this again...
SO.... if i get low compression pistions and i want to get a super/turbo charger,.. the best thing to do would be get the pistions and rods in first... ( :disgust: sounds like an awsome project) and then drive around for bout a month to get the engine use to the new pistions THEN put a charger on it????????????????
.............. OR..............
have the pistions/rods and the charger put in together... and don't give it full throttle until after a month.. ???????????( so i hear bad things can happen if the pistions don't get use to the engine first)..

You can't just simply drop in new pistons and rods, leave that work to a machine shop so they can make sure the bore sizes are correct in each cylinder for each new piston.

You're talking much worko that's far out of the scope of a regular days work. You'd need a shop to do this for you.

i understand its going to be alot of work,.. of course i wouldn't do any of this... this is way beyond my understanding,... but when i get the engine back from the machine shop,... should i go ahead and put it in with a charger put on it when its inside the bay or drive the engine as it is for a while then put a charger on???????????

Do it all at once. If you can't trust yourself to not have fun until it's broken in then boost control will be your friend.

thank you, just needed some clairification

with the low compression and the rods and pistons being forged that means you can run more nitrous and if thats correct how much would be recomended?

i guess there is always alcohol
   or plenty of these when the engine has a huge hole from the piston that just went north.

well that depends, right now ilovemycar is running 125 shots i believe on a stock engine, so with lower compression and forged internals im sure you could do much better than that, however how much more i dont know

So when you say stock engine, is that shot what they call a wet shot. Or is it tuned to put in more fuel to cope with the nitrous shot?
I think I may be getting off topic here sorry. But i guess it is sort of about whether the existing rods and pistons will cope....

you would have to ask him i cant remember, im pretty sure it was dry though

Nitrous responds better to HIGH compression as the air isn't being forced in, thus no heating ... in fact, with nitrous, you get the opposite. The air is being added chemically, not being forced in ... remember that. So, 11:1 + 150 shot is FAR superior to 9:1 + 150 ... in fact, I would go so far as to say probably even 11:1 + 150 shot > 9:1 + 200 shot.
