SO "i'm minding my own business" and get a light with a younger guy (around my age I guess) and he's in this Gen 1 Camaro. Perty good shape, looks very stock, no rust, exhaust sounded stock. Anyways light turns green, and I give it a little more then usual, and kept it in first. Both of us gradually give it more gas until we're flooring it..expecting him to pull away but it doesnt happen, the cougar or shall I say Black Betty :) pulls away.

Sweet

Get another light. Kid starts revving the crap outta his Camaro. I pop him one back. Launch at 3k and slip the clutch..he spins and I spin (just right) get a good hop oh him, cherp second, hit third and I got about a car on him. Slow down to the speed limit (both of our windows are rolled down) I give him the thumbs up, and ask him what's under the hood. He tells me 350 and says the whole car is origional. :) Not bad, he complaments my Cougar and speeds off like a bat outta hell.

Ok so we run into some girls, and go driving around with them..then picked up my buddy from work. So 5 people in the Coug. 3 cramed in the back. I get a light with a buddy of mine with a little civic hatch, exhaust, headers, and a B18B engine swap. Last time I got a light with him I just got my Cougar, couldn't drive very well and just had an intake, yeah he walked me perty good. Now I have Intake, pully and exhaust, but 5 people in my car to his 2.

The gril beside me is talking to his passenger, tights go all red, and civic starts creeping up... I do the same (courious to how I would do now) light goes green, and we both gradually punch it (like with the camero) and they quickley finish up their convo. I hear him open up, so I do the same, and pull a bit on him, second, pull a bit more, then third pull a bit then he moves right on past me  .. did a lot better this time but his third gear pulls really hard! i was quite suprised.. now I wonder how I'll do when I have my SVT lite, and 2 people in the car.

its the reason i wont take it on trips... 3 years ago i had a full car and drove from Albany -> Syracuse -> Rochester -> Albany and went through close to 3 tanks of gas that weekend... i was like fudge that... we take my fiances Camery whenever possible and i throw her some cash to help with her gas bill everyt time she fills up (every other week)

now ther cougar with JUST me is a diff story... i get about 27 mpg on the highway

How do you "gradually punch it"?

well like i said gradually.. start to give it gas, as the other car keeps up with you, you give more, he gives more, etc until both of you are flooring it, or until you hear him punch it (exhaust note) and you keep it in first. so yeah you gradually do it, ou dont punch it all the way but say 25ft after the intersection your WOT. Its kind of like that akward time when you dont know if the other guy is gonna race, so you just stay with each other until both of you punch it.

Cougars hate exra weight, I noticed that 4 of us went camping and had a full trunk (coolers of beer etc)..2 of us already had most of our brought there by my brother the day before..but ya my gas milage was being robbed, and on the way back it was waay better ..empty trunk and 3 people in the car.

That would be gradually accelerating, not gradually punching it.

Punching it would be putting the pedal to the metal.

Gradually punching it is like "sort-of" using birth control.

Sounds like the civic was probalbly playing with you. If I had a faster car I would do it all the time. Make the other person think he's just slightly winning and then bye bye!

I didnt burn our 81 Camaro with a 350 straight piped, but we were dead even for the most part. I had a little edge on him. So your story makes sense to me. It was prolly sporting a 3 speed auto, like our Camaro, so its a cruising car, not so much a racer. If it did have the 4 speed in it, then good job!

Haha, im not sure if I condone the Idea of racing with 5 people in a car that is meant for barely even 4. But whatever, it works, your not all dead.

yeah now that you mention it that was perty stupid.. but at least it was a streight line and also, i'm not going to go totally nuts with that many people in there..but still bad.
