On Thursday night the kid who is our "boss" at my evening job had his mom's 02 Grand Am GT at work...he kept jokingly saying that we needed to race after work so he could kill my "little japanese thing", yes this was in my completely non-rice cougar, he was just kidding... So after we got done loading, we left the Coca-Cola shop and lined up on the 4-laned Broadway....well of course I gave him an advantage by launching from a stop, and it was just a 1 2 3 GO thing done by him. So he got about half a car jump on me, but I about a car on him within a half of a block....he then turned around and headed home....and wouldn't answer his phone the rest of the night.. well the next day I met him on the way to our other jobs, he just glared, and the next time I work with him is monday night...we'll see if I still have a job lol. But the point of this tale is that I was amazed that this car as a manual actually competed with mine for a little ways, where as the ATX's I've raced before are dust before the far side of the intersection...

I didn't think Grand am's were offered with a 5spd in the last decade?

Only the I4's had the option of a 5 speed.

Why would you get fired? He participated in the race as well. And firing somebody based on the results of a race is stupid and i think it might even be illegal.

No the GT models were V6's with the "Ram Air" badge on the front fender & were only 2dr coupes. It had to be a Auto cause the V6 models only came in Automatic. The I4 Models had Ecotec engines out of the Cavs which is why they came in 5spd cause there slow as sh!t.

If they offered a manual trans on the GAGT, I would have one of those now instead of a Cougar.
You CAN get a manual trans on the earlier GAGT's - like 95 or so. But they didn't have the LSD, like the newer GTs do.
EDIT - it was the 92-94 era GT's that had a manual tranny - but it was on a Quad 4. You still got 180 horses out of it, though.
