Well, it finally gave out - on the freeway, Sunday.
Limped home and called Monday to get it replaced. It was replaced by Ford, at no cost to me, sweet!

What were the signs it was gong out? I think mine is going out. I don't have a warranty either.

For me the first signs that my fuel pump was going out was a loss of power and a stall when I came to a stop on the freeway. When I started again, I could barely get up to 60 mph.

Ford had a recall on the fuel pump, so if yours is an original Ford fuel pump, they should pay for its replacement . Tell your Ford/Mercury service person that you got the letter from Ford about the fuel pump recall, but you could not find it. They should be able to look it up.

Good Luck

Thanks. I am pretty sure it is the fuel pump (early start of it going out) because every time I start it (on a cold start) it boggs down and dies, unles I give it a little gass. I have replaced the fuel filter/spark plugs and wires, and it still does it. So the fuel pump was my other guess.

OK it wasnt the fuel pump. Get this: It started running like crap one day, no accelleration at all. I popped the hood and low and behold the fricken tube for the air extension was off of the throttle body and half way on it.

I put it back together, and it runs perfect, and even starts perfect now.

Friggin' newb:rofl:  I kid, I kid.

I am getting driven around by professional drivers now that my car is gone. So, I don't have to worry about car problems and/or gas prices.

Yeah I did feel like a noob when I saw the tube was off the throttle body. But I was also very relieved (not in the toilet kind of way either).
