View Full Version : Cougar vs. Cobalt SS 4-door

So I was on my way home for lunch today and there was a guy poking along in front of me doing about 30 mph (in a 45 zone). I got boxed in by some Isuzu pickup so I dropped back a little, and he slowed back down again to box me in. I downshifted to 2nd thinking I could get in front of him, but I couldn't so I slowed back down to go behind him instead. There is a Cobalt SS 4-door (the non-S/C'd one) that apparently thought I was trying to race him, and he goes speeding off ahead. I get behind the Isuzu and get over to the right lane and start to go again normally.
The Cobalt slows way down and then takes off, trying to race. I see the look on the kids face, he looks like he's MAYBE 18 years old, and it still has the driveout tags on it, so I knew his mommy and daddy bought it for him and he thought he was hard or something. I go by him normally, and I see him take off again, so I just said "F*** this twit" and went to 2nd and floored it. He had gotten up to a half a car on me because he had the jump, but I pulled back up pretty quick, and eventually had him by a car and a half before I let off. Just cuz I knew he was a punk ricer, I just HAD to hit the hazards after I got by him. :rofl: We got to the next red light and he had this look on his face like his puppy just died, it was freaking great! :rofl: I looked over at him just shaking my head and laughing my ass off because of the way he thought he was Billy Badass.

the cobalt ss has roughly 200 hp, and its lighter, good kill, but i think the punk doesnt know how to drive.

the cobalt ss has roughly 200 hp, and its lighter, good kill, but i think the punk doesnt know how to drive.
Non-boosted SS Cobalts are 170 hp.

Yeah. Chevy is confusing. They have a Cobalt SS (2 and 4 door) as well as a Cobalt SS Supercharged (2 door only, IIRC). This was just the SS Sedan.

Good kill bobby..i raced a SS before too...they arent fast or the people who buy them just dont know how to drive it. So hard to tell..they really look like they are TRYING to win.

My friend bought a real SS Supercharged Cobalt. It was nice. But I dont think it was the fastest car I've driven. They do have 210hp, but It really didnt feel like it. That eco-tec engine, I hate it, I had a 05 Cavalier 5speed for 1 day then returned it because the engine just felt horrible. It sounded like a tin hollow thing with pistons in it. Plus at 4k rpm in 1st, I was going maybe 15mph.
My mom has a 4 Door Cobalt LT. I do like that though, the Auto is very responsive.

The 2005 cobalt ss two door (nonsupercharged) cobalt match up with our cougars qwite nicely... a friend of mine has one, my car is stock along with his and i beat him by a hood length everytime.... The cougar is a nuggin faster off the line suprisingly,and top ends are equal.Both atx's.. The race really depends on the launch. A rolling start would be anyones race.

Hmm....so that being said a MTX Cougar would probably take the SS (non supercharged) quite easily.

So just thought that i would let you know here in south west asia there are 4 door chev lumina's that have an ls1 in them. the two door version is the same as a GTO just tagged by chev.

My friend in highschool had an older style lumina z34. It wasn't anything to scoff at. She surprised quite a few people in it. She wrecked it though. :(

Wait! Did anyone ever see that video of that Lumina ('98 body style) that a bunch of rednecks hooked up an additional 3.8 to the rear wheels. So it had two motors, one for the front wheels and one for the back. Lol.
