ok the guy wants to charge me 3200 buks for a new tranny and engine mounts???/ i said no way thats too much money.. he said bla bla blaits a lot of werk bla bla bla.. am i wrong here?
Check car-part.com for the price of a used transaxle. I think you'll be surprised.
To change out the transaxle, you either yank the powertrain out through the top of the engine bay or drop the subframe out of the bottom and remove the trans that way. Lots of work, lots of $$$$. R&R of the thing runs $700 labor alone- And that's not including a new trans or a rebuild of the existing unit.

insurance? for 3 g's ... **** go buy junked mtx parts + new clutch/flywheel/lsd for around $1500 or so, and have him install them for the other $1,500
just an idea.
If his shop is b*tching about how much work it is just to R&R the ATX, do you think for one minute he'd do an ATX to MTX swap??!!
I see your point, though- Do the ATX->MTX swap for much less $$$, but a LOT more pain in the you-know-what...

im not sure if there is a diference between removing a MTX to a ATX but All-Data says it takes 5.5 hours to replace the trans by removing the sub frame. and if im right in speaking, shops are not allowed to charge labor rate over that amount of time which is set by Ford.

i dont thinkit takes 5.5 hours to remove the trans... thats like what it would take me to do it....,./... i contacted the shop and they are no longer doing the motor mounts... i told them i would be swapping in a new engine so there was no point, i would do it then... they also wanted to charge ,me for a speddo sensor (which i replaced last week and was werking fine when i the car got there).. so i straightned there asses up real nice!!! I love it wen they think you know nothing about cars then u just own them.
The guy was like yea ur speddo sensor is faulty. and i sed wtf theres no way.. he said yep it is broken at the port. SO i went under and cheked it out and it was exactly how i left it!!! FUking asshole's trying to rip me off. wat a dum ****

5.5 hours it what ford recomend it would take. basically all motor companies do this so a mechanic cant take his time and charge for exactly how long he was working on your car. but good job straightening his ass out.

A Ford dealer charged me $3,000 for a factory rebuild. That includes R&R. So $3,200 with the motor mounts, it is not that far out of line if they do good work.

yea so they charged my insurance company 3,000 bucks for a completely new tranny and install, no motor mounts. i paid only an extra 100 buks for the install of the shift kit out of my pocket. So im assuming they overcharged the insurance companie.... Oh well. not my money. Should be getting the car back today.
