Had a huge electrical problem the past two weeks or so... Won't get into that at the moment. I currently have one of the red SCT chips that I've been running for a couple of years. Long story short, this thing seems to be partially fried, causing the car to buck about and shut off. Car runs fine without it...
Curious if anyone else has had this problem?
Apparently these only had a 6 month production run, and the software was pulled. Strange stuff here. Wonder how the warranty worked (if it existed, or still exists)

I'd give them a call. Maybe it had a short production run because they had problems with them. I don't know exactly how the chip business works as far as...if they usually only run a brand or type of chip for a certain amount of time or not. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll give you a good deal on a new one or have the current one fixed for nothing.

I thought the red chips were all programmable. If so you could have it reprogrammed instead of having to buy a new chip. Aren't all the red chips the new SCT chips? Does it say anything on the chip?

They are, or were. Keith indicated the the software for programming these red ones was pulled rather quickly. The newer ones have the PC/circuit board exposed.
There is a sticker on this one marked as "SCT 5500 B"

I think they owe you a new XCAL2 or something because of the way their shoddy work killed the chip. I'd tell Keith to just replace it with an XCAL2 and be done with it. Make sure that dumbass tech pays for at least part of it though, stupid moran. :disgust:
