So we're on our way back from the track for the AZ NECO meet last night, and we stop at a gas station to grab some drinks. I go to put the shifter (a Cosmo Racing piece) in reverse, and it won't go. Won't go in any of the "bottom" gears (2,4,R), only the "top" gears (1,3,5). I'm moving the shifter around with the boot off trying to figure out whats going on, and the ball that hooks into the shift cable just litteraly snaps off like a twig. Luckily I had the stock shifter still in the back seat, just in case. So I have to take everything all apart and swap shifters over, at 2:30am, in a strange gas station parking lot in the middle of the desert.

So now Cosmo Racing can just kiss my ass. This thing has been on barely two weeks, and it breaks already. I'm telling you, Cosmo is lucky it broke in the gas station parking lot, not while I was going to 4th gear on the freeway. I'm sending them an email and I'm gonna see if they can give me a refund or something, because this is just asinine. I don't know if I even WANT them to send me a replacement.

Here's the damage.

And the way I had to drive the remaining 200 miles home. :disgust:

why does the part that the weld broke from look like it's bent beyond 90 degrees? was it like that before busting? or by trying to put it in gear did it bend that before snapping the weld?

No, its straight, its just the angle I took the pic at. Don't mind me, I'm going on 24 hours straight of being awake, and I'm trying to stay up all day so I get back in sync for the week.

Thats why you don't buy cheap POS crap like that. You get what you pay for me friend. I have seen a few B&Ms break too but they carry a lifetime warranty so....

moral of the story? cut your stock shifter instead. Shorter and stronger with none of the rice or breakage.

you werent bang shifting were you?

why would it make a difference what speed you were going? broke is broke - its either in gear or not. it wouldnt cause a crash.

...why isnt it all greasy - it should be greased up...

He did grease it. I was there being the teacher during the 3 hour install
I've installed several of these cheapo shifters without any issue. I'm thinking one "bang" shift did it for this one...

Hey Bobby, I just got a B&M shifter used off of focaljet.com (focus forums) for $55 shipped, and there were like 2-3 more B&M's and a FocusCentral going for under $80 shipped, so maybe you can get a good one from somebody over there after you get your refund.

Its when you're banging one chick from behind, and then you make a quick adjustment to the next girl. Its a hard transistion, especially in between thrusts, but if you can get it down pat youll be golden.

So here is my Rant!

I had the same thing happen to me with the Custom Cougar Shifter. I had it on less than a week. No hard driving, just daily driving. Unlike Bobby, I didn't have the stock one in the car when it broke so i had a very expensive tow bill. When I contacted Custom Cougars about it, they basically told me to go screw myself. So FU James Howard!!! And that's why I will never buy or promote any of their cheap ass products.

Since then I tig welded the piece back on so it will never break again.
