I'm new to this site and I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place so forgive me. I just inherited a 1989 cougar ls from my grandparents and its not in very good condition but its got a lot of sentimental value. I dont care how much money I have to drop into it but it needs to be completely restored from the frame to the wiring to the mechanics of the car. I dont know much about cars older than 2000's so whatever info you have even basic knowledge is appreciated.

welcome to the site. youre probably not gonna get much help here for that model of cougar, this site is mainly for the 99-02 cougar, completely different from the older models. there are a few sites that may able to help you out though, try these two and see if you can find what you need.

Good luck restoring your Cougar! In addition to the links james99 mentioned above, I'd also suggest

Also, look around on

The links page is good, but there's some decent info elsewhere on that site, although it's geared more toward the Fox Cougars.

I hope you do realize that you've got a big project ahead of you. I'm doing some pretty intensive restoration on my Thunderbird, too, and it sounds like it might be in better shape than yours. In particular, if there are problems with the body work, that can be a huge deal. (There's no "frame" per se on that car, as I recall.) One thing you might want to consider, if you're determined to go ahead with it, is to do a V8 swap at the same time. I don't know if there are any problems with putting a 4.6L in, but you should certainly be able to put a 91+ Cougar/T-Bird 5.0L into it; if you're going to be pulling the engine and wiring harness anyway, that'd be a good time to do it. The V8 has a lot more beef to pull that fat Cat!

Hope everything works out well! I don't have a lot of information about the MN12 cars (89-97 T-Bird/Cougar/Mark VIII), but I do know a little, so go ahead and drop me a private message and I'll fill you in on whatever I can.
