damn I thought it was just "discontinuing our atx-" which would have been a better idea, if it isn't already retired.

if the cd4e has not been recalled i really think it should be discontinued. to many problems that are problems that could cause an accident. when my atx went out i swerved across 2 lanes of traffic to get to an exit to keep from being in the middle of a very busy interstate.

A lot of people are going to flip out, and for no reason.
There were two main types of automatic tranny fluid in Ford vehicles, not counting the CVT fluid, and SP formulas being used in the new trannys. There was Merc V(XT.2.QDX), and Dex III(XT.5.QM). A few years ago Ford came out with one that was compatible with both types of trannys (XT.5.QMC). They have been testing all three types and found that XT.5.QMC will work in all transmissions requiring either Merc V or DEX III. So Ford decided to drop XT.2.QDX, put XT.5.QMC in the XT.5.QM bottles and drop the QDX part number.
Basically the new formula, which has been around for a while under a different part number, is perfectly fine in any transmission requiring either type of fluid.
So when you need tranny fluid, just buy XT.5.QM and you will be fine.
