I finally broke down and put the Cougar in the shop to get my throw out bearing replaced because it was the remanufactured one from SPEC :banghead: Well I got an awesome quote for $200 so I dropped the car off and the guy was so frustrated with the Cougar he had to walk away from working on it

I knew how big of a job that stupid part took, we'll he charged me $288 for "extra labor" I don't care... it took him 6.2 hours to do it

I felt sorry for the guy because I did it once already and it took me 3 weekends so I knew what he was in for...

Well, that's it ;)

I thought the ones from spec you can use. As long as they mesure 78mm or something like that. The one made for the v6 not the 4.

I orderd a spec stage 1 should get it soon... And I honnestly don't know if I should get a new slave or just use the one they include if it is the correct one.

The one's they include in the kits are crap! I wish I would have know about it before hand... trust me, get a new one through Bill Jenkins (in my sig) it only ran like $80 something.

...or you can go through the pain of installing the SPEC one, only to pull everything back apart and replace it!

Take my word, don't go through the pain! Do it right the first time

Gee, so glad that the slave cylinder (which has the TOB integrated into it) I got with my Stage III is crap... Not like it's already lasted a year under the thumb of 366ft/lbs of torque (granted engine torque doesn't hit the slave cylinder, but you get my point...)

Well didn't you get lucky... I on the other hand did not get lucky with their remanufactured piece of crap.

I have a Stage 1 clutch from Spec and it makes a clicking noise when the clutch is engaged. My mechanic says it's the throwout bearing and that it was faulty when he installed it (makes a lot of sense, huh?).

Exactly. I actually do not have the SPEC TOB in my car with my SPEC clutch...i have a factory one. BUT there have been many many people have good luck with the SPEC TOB. I think the ones that are failing are either one of three things

#1 they did get the I4 TOB
#2 they installed it incorrectly
#3 maybe by chance they got a poorly reman'd TOB

Chances are very high that not everyone that has had one fail is because of #3

I'm picking it up tomorow. From the ford STEALERship (literaly).

Why does spec even bother.... sigh...

I took my Spec throwout bearing out of the plastic and put it immediately in the trash.

Yeah I was about to say. We have done several SPEC installs in your garage and never a problem with the TOB ever. Must be luck or something.

Not true- Do you think it was a faulty slave cylinder/TOB that caused Chris's (silver Cougar, WI NECO) early SPEC Stage 1 failure?

Well, I am living proof that they have faulty TOB because my Cougar runs like a champ now. No more emabrassing grinding noise when I let my cluth out in stop and go traffic.

It really was embarrassing! I put so much time and money into what it is and I wouldn't want to be at a stop in traffic because I knew when I released the clutch it would make that God awful noise and people would look over like WTF

I don't believe it to be. Im sure chris did a little drunk burnout session with the car during break in with the damage that was caused.
