OK, so hears the deal, I ran all the wires for my subs/amp in my car then I went and had a cd player installed at circuit city and I asked them to make sure the subs and amp worked. When they hooked everything up there was no power to the amp. They then went and tested the wires...power, ground, remote and they were all good so they told me the amp was dead but besides that everything was ok. So I bought an amp off my friend (I know it works cause it worked in his truck right before) and when I hooked it up in my car I still don't have any power to it. Can someone help me out with ideas or anything?

Thanks

they just told u everything worked? If i were you i would get a 12v meter if u have one and turn it on and check yourself and make sure there is 12-14 volts from the power to ground and 12-14 volts from the remote to ground. and go from there

do u have a meter? if so turn it on and switch it to 12V DC then turn the car to acc so the stereo comes on and back on the amp there should be 3 connections where the Ground (-) , Positive (+), and Remote (REM) wires will be connected. Take the black lead off the meter and hold it on the ground connection. Then take the red wire and put it on the Positive (+) it should read 12-14 (depending on if the car is running or not) then do the same for the Remote(REM) u should get just about the same voltage.

Don't know if it was mentioned but check the remote lead as well.

Check your fuses, if none are blown it's pretty much guaranteed to be your remote lead. I bet they didn't hook it up at Circuit City ... I just called there today to see if they carried ANL fuses and they had no idea what I was talking about. I would never let those fools touch my car or my stereo.

also check your ground. make sure it's a solid connection to bare metal. NO PAINT!

stoudty - remember eric's car? the problem ended up being a loose ground.

if you think it might be a the remote wire simply take a small wire and jump it from the 12V+ to the AMP remote turn on lead.

If you indeed do have power then the amp should turn on. If the amp does not turn on. Then either you have a bad ground or your amp is indeed dead.

If your not sure if you have power then its as simple as testing it with a multimeter as described above. You can buy one for like $10 @ sears. Invaluable tool.
